Baton Rouge Southern Layout Journal, Vol. 3 (2010)
The East Baton Rouge Parish Department of Public Works (Mount Rainier Division) acquired several new pieces of equipment this week, thanks to a government/military surplus auction (the Laurel Valley and Ponderosa Northern cars are custom paint/letters for two friend's N Scale Layouts):
Adding sound to fifteen locomotives
Although I model California railroading in an “impressionistic” style, I do try to avoid anachronisms and am making an attempt at kinda realistic operation. For now my pike has settled into the transition era, a decision largely driven by my need to fit in a Walther’s Union Station.
Kansas City Southern Lines Layout
As I have posted before, I work in Colorado, but my basement/layout is 500 miles away in eastern Kansas. I have an 1800 sq ft basement for my dream layout (KCS 1981 in HO scale). I have a workbench in my apartment in Colorado so I can do some modeling. I usually get home one weekend a month, but have been home a week for the Thanksgiving holiday. I use "domino" construction and moved my previous apartment layout to the new basement. It was a two track main with some passing sidings and some switching, but was a "round-round" which became bor
Track work....issues
The SP&S road crews kept complaining about a section in the runaround track that was causing air hoses to come undone putting the train into emergency. The City of Prineville Roadmaster was called out to take a look at the section of traffic under load while the SP&S was in town. It was disocvered that the heavier locomotives that the SP&S were using was finding a small section where the sub bed was insuffecient. The track was taken out of service and the MOW department got to work to correct the area.

I have just completed the Howard Fogg car. Converted from a Walthers City Car. See what you think!
I can't figure out how to post pictures.

New L&N loco for the railroad
Recently one of my beloved locos (the first loco I ever purchased) let out the "magic smoke" and no longer operated. It was a U28b Proto 2000(tm) w/ DCC & Sound. It was originally a GE demo loco #302 painted all black. A good friend of mine (Bob) did a custom repaint on the loco in L&N gray (No 2509) and added weathering. He did an excellent job and I definately want that loco running on my layout.
