Detailing Reading GP39-2s & MP15s (pictures repaired)

In addition to my Reading C424s, I also have some of Reading's last engines.

The engine that started my Reading modeling, an Atlas MP15.  The stock model needed little extra detail.  I only added the Sinclair radio antenna, Reading drip strips, the footboards and speed recorder.

It's Blue!!!

I know the sky blue paint I put on the walls on Monday

Blue, your comment reminded me to make this post. I too am elated that progress is being made on the LK&O. Well, at least on the LK&O right-of-way. I find myself standing in the room staring at the blue walls with my imagination running at notch 8. What do you guys think of the color choice?

BDL168 Installation- Kamloops Division Point Staging Detection

Well, it's been a long time since I posted on my layout's progress... or lack of progress, whatever the case may be. I am hoping that posting my progress on my installation of the detection portion of my staging yard will keep me more motivated and hopefully I will complete this sooner than later.

N Scale Figures

All - I need some guidance. I keep seeing all these exceptional layouts with figures (people) in work related clothing or period clothing. I am modeling N scale (30's to late 50's), but cannot find the figures I am looking for that era. Any advise or links to order on line?

Thanks

Cheap Photography

Photography Tricks

When taking pictures of a layout, many modelers will opt for a wide angle view of the scene so that details can be appreciated.  But what if the layout is a "Plywood Pacific"?  The answer is to go in close.  Make the train fill the photo so that other details aren't needed.

The Best Structure Modeler on the Planet

is a fellow named Karl Osolinsky.  Whenever I feel a little frustrated with this hobby, spending my time attempting to get less than well engineered products to function well enough to operate, I dream about building my perfect miniature world.  Here is a man who without compromise turns out the best - IMHO.  Check it out and be inspired.  http://www.modvid.com.au/html/body_karl_osolinski-_revisited.html

Byron-worthy?

I am on Byron's schedule now so I have a deadline to make. T minus 30 days and counting. May I ask you take a look at the Firestone plant arrangement? A major rubber factory complex for switching activity is a druther. The green buildings are not exacts, just to get a feel.

Please shoot holes in my plan because otherwise it looks like to me I have the LK&O's namesake locales in place - Lapeer, Kitzmiller, and Ohio.

Backdrops, Facias & Skirting

While this project was completed some time ago, I wanted to revist it, to show the dramatic difference a simple backdrop, facsia and some skirting can make.

Originally, the layout had none of these things:

Rather visually unappealing.  Just a backdrop does make some improvement:

Even just a facsia can help:
