Mt. Coffin & Columbia River (N scale): Year Two
Here's the continuation of my Mt. Coffin & Columbia River 23" x 41" N scale layout that I started back at the end of November, 2010.
New Kaslo & Slocan layout
Thanks to everyone who responded to my blog post covering our new Kaslo & Slocan (CP) layout. I've attached our updated layout plans reflecting some of the input. The Nakusp location has been moved to reduce operator congestion and the upper level depth has been reduced to allow easier access to the lower level trackage. Thanks again everyone for your input.
Programming Track Troubleshoot
I have wired my Zepher's Programming slots to a DPDT switch according to the diagram and NADA. Need help troubleshooting. Wiring is as follows:
1. Track is isolated by two (2) insulated joiners.
2. Upper portion of the DPDT (back is a series of 6 screws/lugs) is wired to the main power bus - rt side is positive and left side is negative.
3 middle portion is wired to the isolated track (2 drops) right is positive and left is negative.
New CP Layout
Have finally secured space for a new model railroad (empty nest, former kids room). Looking to model the Canadian Pacific's Slocan and Kaslo branches located in southern British Columbia off the former Kettle Valley Boundary Division. Time period modeled will be the 1970's. Layout will be operated most of the time solo, but will host occasional operating sessions with up to 4 other participants. Layout is to be built utilizing commercial shelf brackets and light-weight construction using foam and plywood sandwich as a base.
LAYING TRACK
Getting ready to build my layout. Would like comments pros/cons on the following.
I plan to:
Lay code 100 flex with Peco 100 turnouts (power routing)
Domino Benchwork Construction
I have begun to build the first two dominos for my layout. They are each 2' x 6' and are designed to be one scene. The frames are 3/4" plywood ripped into 3" wide boards. The cross members are every 14 1/2" and evenly split up the area. I am using pocket screws and wood glue to hold the joints together.
Here are all of the supplies.
FNG Eastenders Operations session on the LVN
Please enjoy video of November ops session
Scenery going in at Cascade Creek
I finally got around to doing a little more scenery work on my layout. I'm extending it railroad west a few feet at a time. Maybe one of these days I'll even plant some trees instead of looking at a barren desert! There's nothing especially unusual about what I am doing, but maybe it will be interesting and/or useful to somebody out there.
I'll make this post short and sweet, and then add another meaty one with description and photos.
The Planning Stages
I've cleared off an area previously used as a bar counter. It has a lamenent countertop, bracketed to the wall, and has a cabinet below for storage. My hope is to start an N Scale Layout using this surface. I will have to probably attach another surface to the countertop, plywood or foam maybe, i'm looking into a theme around which to build the layout, my first thought a western town circa 1860.
