Model Railroad Weathering - Getting Started!

This video is a seriously revised and updated version that looks at the whole process of weathering, showing how the process and the subject matter drives the techniques that we use. This video also does a brief introduction to some materials you will need to get you started, as well as a teaser of the different techniques that can be used at any stage in the process.

Laser Cutter options

So I am seriously considering buying a relatively inexpensive laser.  And was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this.

I started out looking at a K40 class.  Costs about 400-600.  Add in a new controller and Lightburn Software and we are adding in +400.  A few upgrades such as a lift and a honeycomb screen, air assist and such and we are +200-300.

So K40 total is about 1000-1300 when finished.  But entry is cheaper and you kind of pay over time (usefull for those of us on limited budgets)

Seeking recommendations on brick painting technique

Here is what I need to know. What good techniques are there for painting the brick insets in items such as the Walthers Geo Roberts Printing or American Hardware Supply. I've had some success in the (distant) past but also had some issues/limitations. Pictured here is my Walthers Tire Plant (same as Roberts Printing, plus other stuff).

Weighting an HO Athearn heavyweight

I'm building an HO Athearn heavyweight observation kit to serve as a stand-in for a business car.  I'm putting the semblance of an interior in the car, so the metal plate weights which come with the kit won't fit.  In looking at ideas for mounting weights, I see two obvious possibilities:

how to prevent tape from pulling off flat painted roads

Hello fellow modelers,

I have a road that is dry wall mud covered, sanded and painted grey with flat acrylic . I need to know  the secret behind taping white traffic lines on the above without removing the grey road color.   Please let me know and thanx very much. Steve Klein

Dream Shop ideas and tools.

I have been reworking my existing Workbench/Shop for the last couple weeks. (you may have seen a few posts about this regarding lighting, air supply and such).   And this got me wondering about what ideas folks would suggest if they were starting over or doing a dream shop.

In my case i am freshening up my shop and not so much starting over and i have a very tight budget but i figure i want to plan ahead a bit.  So any ideas of tgings i should leave space for in the future….
