Rolling Stock Tuneup Tips

I recently did a short search for discussion threads dealing with 'tuning up' our model rr cars,...proper weighting, truck tightness adjustments, etc, etc.

I was surprised at not finding many subject threads dealing with these details. I did find this older one that didn't end up going to many postings,...

Blue Painters Tape

Having spent a fair chunk of time in my workshop of late (Covid Lock down), I had one of those realisations that the subject of this topic has become one of my go to "tools".

Yup, common or garden 1" Blue Painters Tape.

I am sure that most of you are only too well aware how versatile this product can be, but I thought I would share 10 examples of other things i Use the tape for.

SMA41 Working Neon Signs for Most Any Scale

Neon signs were prevalent in the United States from the 1920’s on. Modeling neon signs in scale have had mixed results. SMA40 Modeling with Magnets: Working MU Connections, Brake Hoses, Structure Mounts & Boxes

I was fascinated when I read about Fairway Park Model Products automatic/magnetic air hose couplings for HO scale cars (now offered as PWRS MagnaLock Brake hoses) some eight years ago, because I had tried to build the same myself years before with no joy.

Homemade Decals

Homemade Decals
Working on two BAEX box cars for US Salt. They just have so much personality. Finally found the Champion Paper decals on eBay, but only enough for one car. I think it was the last set in captivity. So I ordered some decal paper from MicroMark. Scanned the decal at 1200 DPI. Pasted a couple three in Adobe. Printed at 1200 DPI. Gave the sheet a shot of clear gloss. Waiting for it to dry. My first serious shot at homemade decals, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Model Train Tools

My father-in-law recently died and left behind a wonderful collection of model trains he built.  Needless to say we are keeping the trains, but I have no use for his tools.  They were so lovingly stored I don't have the heart to throw them out and would rather pass them on to someone would appreciate them.    Some of them, like a miniature press, he made himself.  I have no idea what they are worth but I would like at least $200 to cover shipping and some of my time.  There is a half-built engine and caboose, along with dozens of tools, drill bits

Wow! I just opened the door to the world of 3D printing!

Hi! I just got started 3D printing! The resin printers are really cheap now and the detail they produce stunning! I made an inspirational video explaining my first steps and the process of printing.

Installing Facia with a Hospital Table

Installing facia on my layout, the Trenton Subdivision in N scale. I’m using 1/8 inch mahogany plywood screwed to the cross bracing. I have left room above the screws to attach a removable plexiglass shield.
