For me, when I click the 'click to read this article' link it takes me to page 150-151. Page 151 is the page where 'industry news' starts, so I need to go back once to pages 148-149 to see the correct page.

Interesting piece. I am shocked that one locomotive of that size would only pull 20 cars on a relatively light grade. I have done similar things to locomotives to increase power and they work well. In addition to the weight I also tune the mechanism eliminating as much friction as possible. One of the other things I do is tune the rolling stock so it is free rolling as possible. Below is a video from my YouTube channel where I only tuned the locomotives and rolling stock. The cars are all 1 to 2 oz heavier than NMRA recommended practice. In this case no extra weight was added. Grades here are greater than what was mentioned in the video.

Should I add some weight?

I do not think that I will need to, this O scale F-M weighs in at over 13 pounds:

N Scale, Too

I wanted to model a slug unit. Stripping out the lights from a GP30, I was able to add extra weights. I don't recall exactly but probably had room for only 1/2 oz. Even that little bit made a significant difference in pulling power. Just like the real thing - sort of.
