Building an MRH Wikipedia for model trains

One idea that's fairly easy to add to our web site technology is a wiki. This means we could take the best of what gets posted on MRH and begin building a model railroading knowledgebase - think Wikipedia for model trains.

This is to open the discussion on that idea. What are your thoughts?

Norton gives the MRH site a clean bill of health

There have been some concerns posted recently that Norton was reporting possible malware issues with this web site.

If you go to Norton's web site tester and put in model-railroad-hobbyist.com, they report that our web site is clean as a whistle, and A-OK.

HELP more login issues (but my first)

I just brought home my brand new 'puter, and now I'm having log in issues. I can log in, and the page refreshes with my handle on it to show I'm logged in. But then click on anything to navigate, and when the page loads I'm logged out. Logging in again gives the same result. I've tried re-starting IE, re-booting the PC, and get the same frustrating results. I don't want to start loosing hair over this.

Filtering recent posts list

Is it or could it be possible to allow readers to filter the Recent Posts listing? For example, could one list only Topic and Blog posts? I'm asking because I find the increasing proportion of MRH posts tends to obscure the individual posts I want to follow. Not that I object to the MRH material, but it frequently duplicates the magazine.

The flip side, of course, is the MRH post that generates a flood of comments, which usually means they're worth checking out.

Just the Facts, Maam ...

A gentle reminder...

There has been a discussion of a certain online-vendor where the vendor appears to have engaged in inappropriate business practices.

What are appropriate comments for such a discussion?

To borrow a line from Sgt. Joe Friday from the Dragnet TV show of the '50s and '60s, "Just the FACTS, maam"...

If you're the initial poster, then posting

Getting behind... sheesh.

Whoa. I've been mostly MIA for the past few weeks... and I just had to go back to Page 10 of the Recent Posts list before I ran out of "New Comments."

Catching up could take some time.

Voting for articles

I think the voting system for articles is in need of some improvement. At present it is possible for anyone, whether a subscriber or not, to vote for any article as often as they like, making it too easy to skew the results. Perhaps it should be limited to subscribers only and then only one vote per person (or is it per computer?).

Also, when making comments on articles, can you show the average voting result at the top along with the number of votes cast? It would provide more interest for the punters.

WYSIWYG editor upgraded to latest release

We've upgraded the WYSIWYG editor to the latest release.

You will notice some changes - let us know if you discover any issues. This version should support all the latest browsers including IE9.

The editor now includes a spell checker ... however, we're going on the cheap and using the free version, which includes an "ad popup" for the spell check provider SCAYT (Spell Check As You Type).

Image posting problem?

Tried several times to post a picture - have posted many before today, but today when I open the image icon, the box opens up but it is blank.  I wait, nothing, went away came back, still nothing.  Cannot cancel or close the box (only shows blue box, with the X in the corner and the "Cancel" at the bottom, neither works.

Just happened today.

Done but with errors on page.

Think every page of the MRH forum has the above message in the status bar. If the message is not there there is an exclamation icon with the the Done.

The Windows IE 8 progress does complete and the window appears to be correct but I was just wondering...
