FKD

Tried several times to post a picture - have posted many before today, but today when I open the image icon, the box opens up but it is blank.  I wait, nothing, went away came back, still nothing.  Cannot cancel or close the box (only shows blue box, with the X in the corner and the "Cancel" at the bottom, neither works.

Just happened today.

First thing to check

If you get a behavior change, first thing to do is reboot and see if it persists. Have you done that?

I'm Glad I'm Not the Only One

Was beginning to feel paranoid.

This problem persists.

I'm using EI 9 - upgraded recently, not sure that the two are connected but maybe?

I'm using Bitdefender AV protection - but that is about to expire and I'm going back to Norton.  Will see if that makes any difference, maybe my protection software is protecting me from posting?

I wonder if I can use code, I do in some other forums,  worth a shot  the code is "" with the URL between the img's.

Guess Not - was worth a try.

Browser

FKD,

Have you tried using a different browser, like Firefox, Opera or Google Chrome?

No, image tags do not work.

Testing the url...yup it works.

I had issues with Bit Devender and stopped using it.  You can disable firewalls and popup blockers and then test to see if they were the problem.

Hope you get it figured out.

FKD, I am getting the exact

FKD, I am getting the exact same result in IE9, a blank dialogue box.

Works just fine in FF4.1. Both browsers used on the same computer. I'm guessing there is either a difference in the way IE9 is handling the code that Drupal is using to display the dialogue box, or there is a setting in IE9 that needs to be tweaked.

And here's the workaround: In the address bar at the top of the browser window, to the right of the actual address, there are several icons. Click on the icon that looks like a box with a jagged horizontal line through it. That will turn on "Compatibility view". IE9 will now handle the dialogue properly.

As a note of interest, the problem is usually because older versions of Windows IE did things in non-standard ways, which web designers/authors wrote code to handle. Newer versions of IE are trying to be more standards compliant, but the caveat with that is that many web sites detect that the browser is IE and send the non-standard stuff, which does not work properly in the standards compliant IE9. The "Compatibility view" button is how IE9 works around that issue. But turning Compatibility view on, IE9 behaves like the older non-standard versions of IE, but only for the site that you are currently visiting.

That's probably more informatin than you really wanted...

Yes, our WYSIWYG editor does not currently support IE9

The current version of our WYSIWYG editor (CK editor) we're running on this web site does not support IE9.

I generally don't recommend you upgrade browsers very quickly - it's best to stay a version or so behind - that's because web sites can take a while to catch up.

We hope to install an upgraded version of our editor that supports IE9, but for now, the current version we're running is not compatible with IE9. You will need to use a browser other than IE9 if you want posting to this site to work as expected.

Ah, yes

Yes, I stopped using "Internet Exploder" years ago, except for those occasions where the web pages were designed for Microsoft "standards" only ("FrontPage methodology"). Most of my peers in the industry have standardized on the Mozilla offerings - first Netscape and then Firefox/Thunderbird. They have both served me well.

Joe's advice about holding off on upgrades is a time-proven methodology in the industry, unless you are masochistic or just want to evaluate on an isolated platform.

(Yes, I do use Windows - it is the "de facto" standard - we will probably never get away from it and it does provide a versatility not found in most other OS, but that is just my opinion. Those who prefer other OS have their legitimate reasons for their choices.)

An IE9 Fix

I found I had trouble on another website - my medical insurance claim form would not pop up, a call to their tech help line gave me the quick fix.  Look up at the top right corner of URL line (up at the top) and there is an icon that looks like a torn piece of paper, click and the browser forms work as they did before.  Must click each time so it is a pain but it works.  .

Yeh, that's the backward compatibility button

Yes, that's the backward compatibility button - the idea is it makes the browser act more like older versions - when the web site isn't behaving properly, click the compatibility mode button to see if it works better. Often it does work better.

One reason I use Firefox and Opera...

Ah, the old Microsoft "if it doesn't work, try this" button trick.

Nevertheless, it's good to hear you've found a temporary work-around.

Cheers!

Compatibility view

If the site works for you in compatibility mode then just go into  TOOLS .. And select Compatibilty View Settings

Now add   Model-railroad-hobbyist.com   to be viewed in compatibility mode and you will not have to punch any button  any more.

But this was  done on IE9 and as you can see it is not in Compat mode,  I even restored to defaults to test  and no issue what so ever posting pics since installing the update  and now.

The bashing MS is getting long in the tooth and annoying.  And IE9 was not the problem, users and web sites generally at the root of the problem.
