Web Site Speed

It seems MRH is not the only railroad forum that got a speed upgrade. The other magazine's web site is blazing fast all of a sudden. Nice to see everyone is paying mind to the internet fraternity.

ATTENTION! Marking a legitimate subscriber as a spammer

NOTE: This applies to our deputized moderators primarily. Mere mortals (regular subscribers) marking a post as spam does not delete any thing.

Unfortunately, it looks like one of our deputized moderators marked a legitimate subscriber - Tom Wilson - as a spammer. As a result, all of Tom's blog postings got deleted. Ouch!

We realize the spammers can be a problem (still on our todo list is to totally block the common spam source countries of China, Russia, and Pakistan), but try to be more careful!

Automatic login

Hi,

since we have the new forum every time I visit this page I have to log in again. It doesn't remember me. How can I change that?

More rss feeds, please

I use my rss feed reader a LOT to get notifications of when new model railroad topics are posted anywhere online.

So, it would be nice if MRH would add rss to things like new Topic posts, comments to Topic posts, and comments to Blogs.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks,

Al

WE'RE BACK! MRH website is now on the new servers.

The MRH web site moved to new servers on Saturday, April 9th at noon, Pacific time.

Welcome to our new super-charged servers! Please let us know if you find any problems with the site.

You will be able to tell you are on the new servers when the site changes to our new look:

New rebooted MRH web site ...

RSS Feed and Podcasts

Can you please work on your RSS feed and naming gconventions of your mp3 files? I can never tell if the podcasts are something I've already listened to or not. Naming them like you do the PDF attachments in the RSS feed, i.e. Year-Month-#.mp3, would go a long way to making the RSS feed more usable. And before some quips in, don't tell me to point to iTunes, I don't use it, I use Google Reader and RSS feeds for all my podcast subscriptions. Also, it seems every time there's an update to the feed, there's "new" items in the feed that are really old items republished.

ISP has moved our ad redirect site to a new server

Just noticed some of the ad links that we have on our model-trains-universe.com ad tracking site (companion to the MRH site) are temporarily broken.

For instance, if you click on the BLMA sponsor logo, you get this URL:

http://www.model-trains-universe.com/cheker/cheker.php?idmk=6

Yet, you may get a not found, server doesn't exist, or URL broken response. If you pull the www. out of the URL ...

Outage between 8:30am and 9:30am Pacific

Yes, the website crashed again. Sorry it took so long to get back up - our provider had difficulty accessing the machine in order to reboot it.

MRH Web site failure again circa 1 PM Pacific

We just had another nameserver failure on the MRH web site today - this time running on the non-ad-enabled version of the site.

While we don't like to see failures, this just established what we were wanting to prove to our current web hosting provider - the problems their systems, not our ad-enabled site.
