Alco diesels San Francisco Bay Railroad

Usually Alco switchers are found in museums or tourist lines.  Here's an industrial setting where the burbling whine of an S2 is still heard

from the railroad webpage:

Railroad History Row

Hey everyone, finally back with something other than Trainz livestreams, as fun as they are. This trip was a gem, with a great selection of locomotives. Probably the most notable items you'll see in the video is a GP40 sitting on some Alco trucks, two 45-tonners, and an SD40X. Speaking of which, weren't the SD40X's specific to SP???? Somebody put in the comments below. Anyways, link to the video below.

Anybody have info on this kind of TOFC ramp from the 1970's

I want to add detail to the ramp on my late 70's ATSF layout based on McPherson, KS. This is cropped from a picture I took in 1978. I want to add the wheel ramp(?) but I can't quite figure out how it works. The surface you can see looks like the "top" that the wheels would ride on. To do that it would have to flip up toward the flat car and down to the edge of the ramp. You can see some kind of brace/swing arm connected to the steel ramp.

IAIS's West End - simple switch locks for push-pull turnout controls

I've long been intrigued by the idea of adding working switch locks to the layout as Lance Mindheim, Trevor Marshall, James McNab, and others have done.  They'd slow down operations a bit, draw my crews and me deeper into thinking like our prototype counterparts, and prevent crews from operating on trackage that, on the 1:1 IAIS, is controlled by the Engineering (MOW) or Mechanical departments (diesel house/carmen).  Up until now I've always decided against them since I thought they'd be a hassle when operating alone, requiring both hands to unlock them.

USRA SS boxcar steel side rebuild

I've been going through my boxes of kits and stuff and came across a Tichy USRA SS boxcar steel side rebuild kit.

I'm wondering what railroads used this car and in what era. Also if I could use it for my 1956 era as a foreign car on my Canadian branch line.

Any suggestions or info would be much appreciated.

25' CP boxcar prototype info needed

I have this early 25' CP RR, 15 ton boxcar kit whose prototype was made in the 1860's. i'm looking for a picture or plan for the original. I'm told its in a rather pricey book (Southern Pacific Freight Cars, Vol. 4) but wondering if some kind soul who has it might share the one thing I need from it. Thanks. Alex

How, talk about lucky, over 7 trains in just over 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon!

I went to chase trains on the main line at Tenino, WA and right away caught a train on the Puget Sound & Pacific line (with a GP-9, but going a direction I’d never get ahead of it, so I let it go).

After about 20 minutes waiting in Tenino on the main line, I saw a southbound Amtrak, and a Northbound Freight just a couple of minutes later (I missed seeing a ‘running meet’ with two moving trains passing each other, but about a mile).
