Prototype information
Train Holiday
I've recently returned from holiday. What on earth does that have to do with a (model) train related forum? Well, as the trip was centered in part on an across Africa train trip, thought folks might have some interest!
Barrel Colors
I am looking for long memories here.
Does anyone remember the barrel paint schemes that were used by Canadian fuel suppliers in the 50's/60's?
Imperial Oil (ESSO) used Red/White/Red, I believe the B/A (now Gulf) used Green/Orange/Green or maybe it was Blue/Orange/Blue. But can't remember what Co-op, Shell and Texaco used. Also would be interested in the color codes for some of the American companies as well - although I think Standard (or is it Mobile) used Red/White/Red as well.
Talc Plant Question
Good day all,
I am working on putting down on paper my list of industries and have hit a small snag on one. My last industry going on on my layout will be a Talc Plant. Now aside from Center-flo and covered hoppers, would anyone know what other cars would be used at a talc load facility- I am taking the product out of the plant stage and its being shipped to factories to be used in making products
Thanks inadvance...
ICRR Poydras Street Yard
Mike Palmeri sent me these interesting points on the Poydras Street Yard.
Poydras Street Yard and surronding industries
Guys earlier today I had a emergency crop up and got side tracked. Here are some of the amazing photos and maps that I've collected so far for my layout design. I would like to thank Art Houston and Mike Palmeri for all they sent me on the Poydras Street Yard. I hope you enjoy them and if you have questions or maybe some suggestions for me while I'm still doing a preliminary design, please feel free. My goal is to make this layout true, and ill fit as much as I can with the space limitations I'm forced to deal with.
ICRR Poydras Street Yard, Maps, photos
Going to put up a few pieces of information that you other ICRR modelers and fans may find of interest. Id like to thank Art Houston, and Mike Palmeri for contributing the majority of these photos and maps. Truely without their kind assistance, my project would still be just in the dream stage. To all, I'm looking for any information on operations into and out of Poydras St. Yard, and the industries it served. Anyone having maybe old switch lists, or if schedules exist or anything of that nature, id appreciate copies if you wish to share them.
The Dearborn Industrial Track
Made another blog post today about my proto-freelanced modern day Detroit Terminal railroad. Today's topic was the Dearborn Industrial Track.
As always, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

ICRR Poydras Street Yard
I am currently compiling data to design and build a HO switching layout of the Poydras Street Yard in New Orleans, La.. Right now I am going through some insurance maps, and aerial photographs, to establish a track plan, and really need some data on what trains went in and out, switch lists maybe if they exist, or any kind of data in this area would be of help to me. I want to set it in the time period of 1938 to 1950 ish. It really depends on how much I can learn about operations in this area. Anything would be appreciated, please email me at guymartin1956@gmail.com.
Planning Stages
It's time for me to quit lurking and start posting. I just relocated to the Chicago area, and once we close on our house in about a month, at last I'll have a decent-sized basement once again. For the last five years, my modeling attempts have been confined to single-car garages and utility rooms jam-packed with other stuff, so that the prospect of making regular progress was nigh impossible. Shuffling out into a dim, damp, cold garage in the middle of an Ohio winter to work on the railroad meant that I didn't do it very often.
