A Model Railroader's Shop
Ever wonder what the other modelers shop looks like? Where those scratch built cars, engines & structures are built. I know I do. So, here's my small basement shop 9' X 16'. This small shop houses the table top machinery, work benches and large area's of horizontal storage that hides my tools that I'm constantly looking for.
I thought I'd start a thread on the model railroad shops since we've had so many nice pictures of layouts and rolling stock. It's a bit of a diversion.
The Thing-A-Week challenge and some tips on oil bottles...
The "Thing-A-Week" challenge... is something a friend turned me onto. Basically, the concept is that in order to make progress on anything, be it gaining skill, pushing yourself, or maybe, say, building a model railroad, you need a goal. Essentially, the Thing-A-Week challenge is thusly: Each week, do SOMETHING towards accomplishing your goal. Doesn't have to be big, doesn't have to be important, just has to be SOMETHING.

Cornhill & Atherton - "The Wedding Cake"
This blog is going to cover my efforts to stop a helix looking like a wedding cake.
I am doomed to fail……………
However, my objective is to use every trick, tool and all advice given along the way, to minimize the visual problem that a helix presents.
Changing how you do the hobby forever?
Looking back over your time in the hobby, tell us about the one thing, more than any other, that has forever changed - for the good - how you do the hobby.
I'm starting this thread because I think it could be an interesting conversation.
CLARIFICATION: Not looking for new technology (DCC, 3D prototyping), new products (better adhesives), or new organizations (N-Trak, JMRI open source project) ... I'm looking for MINDSET-CHANGING concepts like Allen McClelland's "Good Enough" concept.
