Installing a BLMA Searchlight Signal

If you follow what little blogging on here I try to do, then you will already know that I was given (happily) the daunting task of converting a large HO scale layout from ABS signaling to a very prototypical CTC system, which I was allowed to model after UP's CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch). While the way the system operates is very close to today's Union Pacific, the hardware on the layout had to at least give a feel for the Santa Fe, which is what the layout owner models. Good enough for me, just means I get to play with that many more types of signals.

Modeling Buffalo

Derrell Poole provides an editorial regarding his decision to model Buffalo, Colorado in Sn3. You can read all about it on the C&Sn3 blog:

Dipping a toe...

So I am officially dipping my toe into the dark pool of soul sucking model railroading that is On30 (which seems to be a trend, based on other posts), as I bid on and won a two truck shay on eBay.

General questions about the loco, as I await it's delivery.

A visit to the Wiskey Central

Today I had the pleasure of meeting a new friend and operating on a busy little switching layout in Winnipeg.

The railroad represents a small section of the Kimberly Sub of the WC and has several paper mills, along with a few other industries. Lots to keep a crew busy in this 10x13 space.

You can catch up with Bob and his buddies at wc2scale.org .

Thanks for a great afternoon!

Vacation time equals progress

I've been on vacation this week and had to do the inevitable errands and honey do's  as well as trying to get my above ground pool ready for the summer season. But, amidst all that I did find time last night and today to start making some more progress on the layout  and knock out some items on a " punch list" I made up.

Evergreen Valley Rd Bridge Free-mo Module

This is my (first) blog post that I'll use to show the progress I'm making on my Free-mo module featuring a trestle (at least I think that's what this structure would be called, English not being my first language) as found on Evergreen Valley Road just a short distance away from my house, on the old Southern railroad, now part of Norfolk & Southern's Chesapeake and Western division.
