Modeling general discussion

Weekly Photo Fun - July 1st to July 7th, 2016

Awesome work everyone last week!  Time to start of this week's photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

What would you like to see on TMTV?

I LOVE Trainmaster TV and I'm curious on what videos others would like to see on their site.  Please share your wishes.

Free-mo at National Train Show in Indianapolis

Good morning all,

Since we are only a week away from the National Train Show in Indianapolis, I'd like to invite MRH members to stop by and say "Hello".

The railroad is comprised of modules from Massachusetts, New Hampshire,Ontario, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Minnesota; all using the Free-mo standard. The green squares are 5ft x 5ft in size. Our space number is L-7010.

The next generation

There has been a lot of discussion about the “graying” of our hobby and what can be done about it.  Most of that discussion is on the macro level, but I would like to take it to the micro, or personal level.  This discussion is about my own experiences and hopefully it can help others.  I have two children, and they both like trains and model railroading, at least to some extent.

Large Scale Panoramas

Greetings,

Im just wondering if anyone might know of a good place to get panoramas printed?  I'm needing a place that can do very large prints, with some being up to 45" wide and perhaps 130-140" long.

Ive got some backdrops from narrow gauge country that are needing printed.

Thanks for for the help!

Is there a digital edition of this book?

The NMRA view

The "Letter To The Editor" post garnered a substantial number of replies and a good deal of debate.  While I did not partake in that debate I did follow it with interest as a totally impartial observer.

In my email this morning  I received "NMRA eBulletin July/August 2016.  The Presidents piece made for very interesting reading and I felt, for balance, should be reproduced in full on this forum.  Again, I have no strong feelings either way on this debate.

Should someone with very limited modelng skills and very specific modeling goals quit the hobby?

I ask this question because it is quite clear to me my modeling skills, which have been developed vver the past 30+ years have not significantly improved.  What has triggered this line of thought is I just finished attempting to glue the guard timbers for an open deck Viaduct.  I am using the Micro Engineering Kit which I would say is an Advanced Skill Level.

A problem I've never had before

This is a first for me: I have to think about keeping my layout clean! Up until now we always, always moved before my layout had the slightest chance to accumulate dust but now it looks like we're staying where we are and the G&AM will be around for many years to come. I would like to know how everybody else here keeps their layouts from getting dusty and - if it happens - how you clean it up again.

Making a headlight lens

I have this headlight casting:

I have drilled from the bottom for wires to go to an SMD LED. I want to encase the LED in something that will prevent shorting (it's a brass casting) and also to form a headlight lens. I have experimented with a number of clear adhesives and all have shrunk up on me, useless for a headlight lens. I am seeking any suggestions on what I can use to form the headlight lens.
