Modeling general discussion

Electrical question
A quick question.I run dc with block control.tonight i did some ballasting using the wet water treatment.About 30 mins later i went to run a train away fron the area i was working when i turned the power on in one block all the blocks became powered.
Could tbis have to do with the wet water not being completely dried and the moisture is causing problems,
Thank you

replicating an excursion
February 22, 1953 was the only time that the Pacific Electric ran a PCC on the Santa Monica Airline. Fortunately for the Pacific Electric fan, there are at least two pictures of this, one at the West Hollywood freight station and one at the Santa Monica freight station.
Jaxcilliest Enterprises - the ultra-mini hoist & dump layout
Hi all,
now for something totally different. So you don't have room for a model railroad?? Even a tiny one.. Yeah right....
Just suppose you apply the maximum "squeeze factor" to a mine type railroad. You might possibly end up with something like:
Stick vs. Pan Pastels
Read the article about weathering with pan pastels and was impressed.
I have used pastel sticks in the past by scraping the stick to produce a powder and applying with a brush. However, one shot of dull cote tends to remove most of the applied powder.
Does pan pastel have more “sticking” power?

Loco for Locos!
Me:
"Doctor, it started harmlessly with me getting just one locomotive.....and then another.....and then another....and then another...... I can't seem to control myself even though I have a small layout I justify that I need more locos so I won't get bored seeing the same ones over and over."

Weathering and Panpastes
I'm looking for an online source of PanPastels or similar. I would like to get a set for weathering and a full kit with brushes would be nice.
Any suggestions or is there a weathering specific forum where should ask?

Sketchup no longer free?
Sketchup is no longer free?
Sketchup Make is all I can find & it's only a 30 trial for the Pro version.
Google sold it to "Trimble"
Trimble claim it's free, but it's not.
Road trip--searching for hobby shops and railroads en route
In a few days, I'm driving north from Florida, heading to Charlestown, NC and Wilmington NC, and perhaps further north. I'm on my own, so no one else to gripe about time "wasted" looking at train stuff.
I'm interested in any good train shops along the route. Mostly, I'm on the lookout for used and new oldstock, or other shops that sell things not in the Walther's catalog. The current stuff is abundant and easy to get.
