St. Johnsbury yard and Passumpsic Paper - with photos
Sorry the photos didn't attach on the first go-round:
Here's a first look at my N scale Washington County Railroad line between St. Johnsbury, VT and Orleans, VT (each bullet corresponds to the photos attached, in order):
Progressing along like a Tortoise
This weekend’s fun beyond dinner and a movie with my wife and the usual kid’s activities included more work on the staging yard. Last week it was re-gauging the 3 way turnout (see http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/25448 ), and running passenger and freight trains through the yard throat at ridiculous speeds to see where any problems might be. My philosophy is that if I can run a 6 car passenger train through trackage at full throttle with no issues, the test is passed.
Optivisors
Hello, I'm considering buying an Optivisor for all that close up detailing work. I know that I can get various separate lenses for it, to increase it's magnification, but would like to kno what the best 'average' magnification is, would that be the version with 2x magnification?
In other words, which magnification do you find yourself using most of the time?
Many thanks, Koos
Raising Cane
Spend several hours trying to create an illusion of a cane field. After three separate sessions of frustration it has about 24" of sugar cane. There has to be a better way than planting a few stalks at a time and certainly end up looking more realistic. First my effort with some wet backdrop paint:
And a photo of some real sugar can fields for comparison:
1st drawing, paint booth design
I am expecting my blower fan to get here soon so I figured I would draw up some plans. I used Xtrackcad to draw it because I have no idea how to draw without it. Works pretty well.

UV activated glues
Has anyone any experience with UV glue? I think my dentist uses it to hold my crowns own so it should be strong enough. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

DCC system shorting out ???
I began wiring a few blocks on the railroad. Following strict guidelines learned from reading other modelers problems, I took the leap of faith and started the wiring. Each block was tested during the wiring phase (20ga feeders twisted onto the 12ga buss) and no shorts were detected. After each block was deemed successful, I soldered all the feeders to the their bus.
What makes a good model railroad hobbyist?
Recently Joe Atkinson asked what post seem to get the most attention (reads/comments). It got me to thinking about those on this forum who seem to be respected for the types of posts that attract attention, whether by design or innovation, and those who seem to be prolific model builders.
