The completed aircraft cars with Boeing 737's. all canopys and icebreakers are scratch built by me.

Berrett Hill Conversion
I just converted switch machine controls on my existing layout to a recessed, lighted button type from Berrett Hill. An easy 10 minute operation and one where I will start from "scratch" as I work on the new West End of the railroad.

How to Add Lighting to a Model Building
This week we are adding simple lighting to the scale house.

Foam board
I want to do my layout on a 2" foam base. Just wondering where others have obtained this. I'd prefer to get a 4x8' sheet and cut it down the middle to make 2 8x2 sheets to go in the 2x8 modules that I will be making. I looked on Lowes web sit and they have 1" thick and 1.5" thick. I guess I could get the 1" and glue them together but I don't think that would be ideal.

Setting Digitrax Decoders So That Rear Lights Are Always On Dim
I recently purchased two N scale Atlas GP-40 DCC equipped locomotives. Both have Digitrax decoders. I want to consist the engines which is no problem, but I want the rear lights on both engines to be dim at all times. The front lights need to be bright with direction of travel and dim on the front of the trailing unit.
I know how to do this with TCS decoders, just can't figure out how to do it with Digitrax decoders...
Thank you for any help.

Fast tracks
Reading Joe's book on track work, and looking at getting a jig for switch building, but my concern is with the frog, as I don't feel too comfortable with building them and I'm wondering what options if any would work

The poll results are in!
Thank you to all who participated.
The results are in with 68 total votes.
71% (48 votes) for dry rails with a graphite treatment or similar
19% (13 votes) for dry rails with nothing on them.
10% (7 votes) for some sort of conductive oil on them.
Here is the link to the original poll.

The mystery of the comical "railroad mushrooms"
Years ago I found batches of "mushrooms" along railroad tracks, at two different locations in Oregon and California. They very much resemble real mushrooms in shape and appearance, and appear to have "grown" directly out of the rocky ballast - but they are composed of a synthetic man-made rigid foam material which burns with dense black smoke. They do not bio-degrade in indoor storage.
Looking for information on Atlas Master - N Scale -- EMD GP38
I would like to know if some one can tell me if the Atlas Master - N Scale -- EMD GP38 are out, yet.
The SKU numbers I'm looking at are 150-40002744, 150-40002745 and 150-40002746.
Thank you for your help,

Viewing Distance
A recent post got me thinking. We often refer to "viewing distance" as how far we appear to be from a given model. Often we assume that we will be 2 to four feet from our models when we look at them. In HO scale that is about 150 to 400 feet. But I have to ask,is it really? If you took a model an placed it 2 to 4 feet in front of you and lined up its prototype next to it in your view at what distance would you see them as the same size?
