N Scale Micro Trains Truck & Coupler Conversions

I'm in the process (almost complete actually) of converting all of my rolling stock over to Micro Trains (MTL) trucks and couplers. I would eventually like to swap all of the wheels for Fox Valley metal wheel sets but we'll see how things go in the near future.

While the Micro Trains website does have conversion lists available when swapping from Atlas Accumate (or other manufacturer) couplers to the MTL couplers, what I'm looking for is a list of what car types should have what MTL truck/coupler type.

Cass W.Va Company Store dimensions...

Dear MRHers,

By any chance, does anyone happen to know any basic dimensions of the Mower Lumber nee Cass Lumber Company Store building in Cass W.Va? Even a guide window dimension would help. I've poured over both online and hardcopy pics but can't seem to get a guide height or width dimension which syncs-up

- The dimensions of the clipboard planks
- Dimensions of the 2nd and 3rd storey windows
(as compared to various laser-cut and styrene windows in my "modelling warehouse")
- Dimensions of average floor/ceiling height

New Project- 3D print of IT/PRR gondola hopper car

For those that have read my blogs, I am modeling the early Illinois Terminal, or the Illinois Traction as it was known before the 1930's.  My next project is recreate the early drop bottom gondola hoppers that the Illinois traction had as shown in this photo below courtesy of Mike Fourtney's collection. Specifically it is car 3065 in the foreground.  The Illinois Traction Company had about 300 of these I think.

Stuck in a mental tug-o-war...

So I am currently modeling a protolanced Pacific Electric branch based on the Santa Monica Airline just west of Los Angeles. I live in Casa Grande, AZ, 40 miles south of Phoenix.

I originally started a layout based on the area that I live in, set in the 1980's, but I have backdated my layout to the 1950's and moved it 400 miles west to the Pacific Coast.

Another Junk Box Hero...

I haven't done much with my HO stuff in a few years due to several reasons.  Running 12 inch to the foot trolley cars at The Shoreline Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT, http://www.shorelinetrolley.org Retiring from 27 years at Mazda North American Operations, and doing a mechanical restoration on a 1941 GE 23 ton loco. It isn't complete yet but it is usable and is a lot of fun to operate.

gloss coat over primer

I just finnished spraying black primer on a tank car. I like the looks so im thinking of
spraying a clear gloss cote just where the decals go and after the decals dry , spraying the whole car with dull cote. will this work or screw the car up.
Thank you for

Disappearing window and door makers...

With the upcoming closing of Grandt Lines, many posters here suggested buying from Tichy Trains or Rusty Stumps. Unfortunately, Walt at Rusty Stumps has had some health issues and is stopping production of his beautiful laser cut doors, windows, shingles and fencing as of June 1. The good news is he will continue with the rest of the business and plans to expand his 3D printing.

Also, looks like Vectorcut is gone for good now. Who else does lasercut details parts?

Other than more room, what is your railroad desire?

In other words, what is your layout or workshop missing? This can be something no longer available, something that was never available, or is beyond the budget. I leave out more room, because that is universal.

My desire is for more geared steam. I have a Roundhouse Shay, both Bachman climaxes and a Riverossi Heisler. Brass is out of my price range, as well as anything currently on eBay

Track or Subroadbed, ...Expansion\Contraction problems

What exactly is the problem that almost all us face with our model railroad track seeming to change shape (length in particular), with temp & humidity variations? Can it be attributed to the track alone, or the subroadbed alone?  ...or primarily to __?
