Does your railroad have a "back story?"
This is one of the best produced and interesting back stories that I've come across in the model railroading world. Mr. Spry starts a century or two back and works his way up to his present day Narraloch Valley Railway. The first dozen or so minutes deal with the history of the area where his railroad is located and the last few minutes have to deal with design and construction issues.
Happy viewing!

Building a wagon turntable from scratch using easy available materials
During the christmas holiday season I scratchbuilt a wagon turntable for my 009 gauge layout. These turntable will serve my future Whisky distillery on my Isle of Skye Railway Mk2. In these Youtube tutorial I will show you how to build the turntable with 1mm and 0.5mm styrene sheet, some rail offcuts, superglue and plastic cement. The turntable is not motorised or powerd, but could be turned by hand. During the filming I had some problems with the autofocus of my camera, and I had to find a good cameraposition for filming how to tutorials.

History of the Screwdriver
We all use screwdrivers in our hobby (and other work). I thought this history of the screwdriver was quite fascinating, .....and might be so for other modelers.

Zip texture problem
Hi- I am trying to apply Zip Texturing to my scenic base and am having a strange problem.
1. I am following the techniques described in the MRH Sept/Oct 2010 article by Joe Fugate. I am using the same materials and the same mixture formulations as described there.
2. My scenic base is the mixture of patching plaster, cement, and vermiculite described by Joe. It has completely dried and has been covered with two coats of flat latex paint which has completely dried. The surface is sealed.
Show me your modern'ish lumber mills.....please
Getting ready to layout my mill scene and am in need of a little motivation. This will fill an approx 2'x12' area at the end of a branch line. I would also be interested to hear what your cars in/out besides empties in and lumber out.
I have a good idea of what I want, just seeing what others may have done
Thanks
Steve

Tubing for driveshaft
I need to connect a 2.0 mm motor shaft to a 1/8" (3.175 mm) gearbox shaft.
What ID tubing and wall thickness is recommended. What material, vinyl or silicone, or ?? Who is a good supplier?

Switching a "Simple" Spur
Kind folks have asked about operations on my initial Chicago & Indiana module. Below I'll describe switching the fertilizer dealer near Berne, Indiana.

Going Overboard on Lumber
Last weekend it was cold outside, -36c, so I decided to make a few wrapped bundles of lumber to scatter here and there on the layout. I used information from another modeler posted on his blog which required cutting pine to scale bundle size, printing some bundle wrapping and then cutting the paper to size to wrap around the wood. I only planned on doing a dozen bundles but it was so easy I made a lot more.
