Photo studio lighting
I finally got around to setting up some proper photo studio lights. Rather than building a separate photo booth, I decided to mount the lights on my workbench, tapping into the power that's already run for the main light.
Painting Vaulted Ceilings
My train room is now ready for painting. I plan on a sky blue background on the walls. My walls are 9' high with vaulted ceilings rising to 15'. My question is this: what color should I paint the vaulted ceilings? Should they also be painted sky blue, or a different color (white?).

Aggregate Company tram line
I'm starting my layout with an aggregate tram line that will interchange with my standard gauge New York, Vermont &Northern Rwy.
I'm going to use an old track plan that Chuck Yungkurth designed called the Gum Stump & Snowshoe for a track plan for my aggregate line. Here's a picture of it courtesy of MR. It will be slightly modified. The layout is 6 feet long by 12 inches wide. Track gauge will be 30" or HOn30 (N scale track).
Painting a N&W diesel
Hi
I am going to paint a N&W RS3 and it should not be to hard, its black with yellow handrails. But, and here is my question, what kind of black? I am looking at Tamiya´s assortment trying to figure out what to use...

Problem Children
Recently I began adding rolling stock to my switching layout after converting many to steel wheels and adding weights and adjusting coupler heights. I ran a few of these to check and enjoy the track work and industries at the upper level BD yard. One of the reefers kept derailing at a switch and losing a wheel and coupler. This was an RTR car right out of the box that checked out for weight and coupler height. After several "run bys" and much frustration, I set the "problem child" aside and proceeded onward.

Steel Mill pictures
Had a few people ask me to post some over all shots of my steel mill. Here is a direct link to my pictures on Photobucket.

Trackwork rethink -- an interim update
It has been a few weeks since my last update. SInce then I have been re-examining questionable trackwork on the second level of the BQR and pulled a bunch of it. The back to back turnouts that caused the original problem with my Canadian cars has been replaced with a single turnout and some long, smooth curves going through a custom curved diamond. Recognizing that what was done was a really bad idea, more than a few hours were spent running trains in my head through the area until a better plan emerged. A problem that folks who model prototypes don't have to the same degree...
