Drywall as backdrop substrate
My brother is setting up a dedicated layout room. He would like to cove the corners with hardboard, and blend that into the (new) drywall as a base for his backdrop. I've seen posts that indicate that people have used drywall as a base for painted backdrops. Is it really smooth enough for that purpose?
Thanks,
Jeff

Scale Model Animation
Scale Model Animation
Model Railroading is a terrific hobby for me because it excites many of my own interests including railroading (of course), scale modeling, history, electronics, photography, geology, and animation – to name a few. But it is animation—bringing the models to life—that brings it all together for me, and brings the most satisfaction.

DCC in a box for modular layouts?
Hello all,
I've been working on a Free-moN module (almost done, and getting ready to start another) and I was wondering if anyone's ever assembled a complete DCC system in a transportable case to use with modules at shows, meets, etc. I have several ideas, but I'd like to see how others have done it.
Thanks,
Andrew
MRH: International?
So now that we have a thread dedicated to German Railroads and we have Michaels' very nice work, it has occurred to me quite suddenly that MRH itself may be in for a question of the minds: Does MRH go International?
Such an issue was never really an issue of contention for the old paper volumes: they picked a demographic and targeted it, as their medium limited them to that market.

DCC or switch
Hello, I am new to model railroading and received a starter set. kato N gauge set M2 with turnouts. I would like to be able to park a train on the turnout while operating a 2nd train on the layout. Do I have to buy DCC for the engines and a DCC transformer. or is there some type of switch I can buy to switch the power off on the turnout track only while keeping power to run the main track layout. Thanks for any help and suggestions you can give me.
Tortoise Motor Tester
One issue that I encountered building the layout is that occasionally the switch motor installation needed a bit of tweaking before it worked correctly. The tortoise motor always worked, but sometimes the motor position, alignment or extended actuator wire shape was, shall we say, suboptimal. I had been hooking things up, then wandering around with the throttle and triggering the motors with switch commands. But I found this was a pain, particularly when the turnout was in an inaccessible part of the layout.
workbench help
Sometime ago, there was a blog entry admiring a workbench purchased from a box type of store in the ( I think ) Northwest. I have searched the blogs with the search engine and reading them again and can't seem to find the entry. If you could help, I would appreciate it.
