Taking Photos of a Tank Farm
Has anyone experienced harassment from the law or otherwise while taking photos of a tank farm? There's one near my house that I would like to use as a source for ideas for my N scale layout. However, after reading a bit about people being arrested for taking photos, I decided it's best to ask here first.
In case anyone is interested the tank farm is at latitude 33°54'39.38"N, longitude 84°16'25.30"W in Doraville, GA.
Tunnel Portals out of Foam Board
Fascinating. Will use something like this myself.
How wide do you mark the track when drawing on CAD etc?
I'm in the process of teaching myself AutoCad and like to use Free-mo module designs as my test subject to learn with. My question though is how wide do I mark the roadbed? So far I've been marking it as 2" wide which includes the ballast profile, the result is a track plan that "looks fat". Should I be drawing to the width of the ties or the width of the rails instead? What is the "norm"?
Thanks
Kato Unitrack Curves
It's possible to combine Unitrack straight and curve sections to make up many radii. Here's a selection of what can be done.

And there's an MRH forum thread on Unitrack turnouts that is very interesting. I didn't know about the differences in power routing for the #4 and #6 turnouts. It's something to keep in mind.

Cornhill & Atherton - "The Wedding Cake"
This blog is going to cover my efforts to stop a helix looking like a wedding cake.
I am doomed to fail……………
However, my objective is to use every trick, tool and all advice given along the way, to minimize the visual problem that a helix presents.

SUE LINE ACTION
A video by Michael Stokes on action at the Sue Lines, located in Shreveport, La. Great use of video, stills, rr sounds, and music.
Athearn RTR!
I have recently purchased two SW1500 RTR switchers, they are now DCC and run great (my first Athearn purchase).
There are a few opinions about the SW1000/1500's having different motors from the other RTR locos. I was considering a SD40-2 RTR dcc ready but I am reading a lot about Ready to REMOTOR or Rebuild, are they noisy?
However the guy that owns the shop reckons they have the same motor as the sw1000/1500?

ModelerManMike Walthers City Apartment Build Video!
ModelerManMike on MRH ?
I decided to come over here with you great bunch of folks and see what your up to. I wanted also to share some of the things you might be interested in. I am a modeler that experiments with all kinds of things and looking for new idea's and assistance from people who know what they are doing!

How would you handle this?
Happy New Year!
I've been able to spend some time shuttling trains from my staging track to my yard area and I see a potential issue. My east and west staging yards meet in what I'll call a junction. My initial plan was to have the junction hidden under the second (upper (by 4")) loop, but I can see now that I would like to have this pair of turnouts visible and accessible.

Walthers whoops
It seems as though Walthers did it to me AGAIN! I hate ordering stuff from them that is on sale and in stock and when the confirmation comes to me there is always at least one of these items not shipped and not B/O'ed. It's enough to make you want to yell! That's what I'm doing here.
Anybody else have this problem?
P.S. My LHS doesn't have any of the ordered items in stock. I tried them first.
