Walthers ADM Grain Elevator Question

Quick question, I'm looking over the instructions before I begin, and I see qty four (4) of part# 10 on the same "trees" as the main building pieces (#'s 41 and 40), but nowhere in the instructions does it say where they go. They look like they should be part of the main building itself, but I cannot see where to attach them.

Thanks, Grampy

looking for ideas - wiring miniature toggles DPDT/ SPDT,Etc.

anyone have any tricks to wiring these miniatures?  Have my desktop magnifier with light, vise to hold them, and low heat (30W soldering iron) and very small diameter solder   The jaws of my vise are long enough that I can put 5 of them in to daisy chain the +'s & -'s but clearances for terminals are really tight (I have always used the standard size toggles).

what i do is: put toggles in vise - nail file each of the toggles terminals then lightly tin, then lightly tin each wire, install in terminal hole and quick reheat & solder

Plastic Prep

I recall using a product called Plastic Prep from Testor's.   It was used for cleaning oils and grease from plastic before painting.  It has been discontinued.   Could any household surface cleaner be used instead?

Update on BNML Layout Progress - 2 Milestones!

A quick update tonight before we get ready to go on a warm vacation...

I haven't posted a lot for a few weeks but I have been steadily working on the layout and tonight I have 2 significant milestones to share - actually... 3!

1. All of the Benchwork and Roadbed were completed this past week. Yay!

2. The first train rolled into the Emerson Yard tonight. Yay!

3. My RailPro Controller and 6 LM2S's are waiting for me at my US post office box for when I get back from  holiday... YAY!

Satisfying Decoder Instalation

Just completed a decoder install in my Kato N scale 2-6-2 Mikado. I found the new Digitrax  DZ 126 T a great decoder for this purpose. The install in the boiler is not simple but very doable. Plenty of space can be created and wiring poses no problems. Even this tiny decoder has transpondering which I require for Surroundtraxx. Attached is a photo of the little beast. I yet have to add a vestibule all weather cab as I model Canadian Pacific. This I purchased from Miniatures by Eric. Can't wait to finish a complete detail.

My first attempt at weathering a locomotive...

My very first attempt at weathering a locomotive.  Man this took some serious time to master...

This RDG GP30 started out as a Proto 2000 and was my very first locomotive that I bought and what started me on the path to modeling the Reading Lines.

GP40-2WB

Does anyone know of a source for either a complete shell or just the cab for a GP40-2WB? TIA.

Rivarossi Alleghany Screw Sizes

Hello I have a Rivarossi Alleghany I am putting back together It is missing the screw to hold the boiler on and also the screw that holds the cab on. I was hoping to get screws from my local hobby shop. If I was to get a tap set could I tap new non metric holes for the screws say something like 2/56. I never realy tried taping for new screws but it looks easy. I would need to also do the tender shell. Any ideas or help apreciated.

How do I obtain a certian color "temperature" with RGB LED's

Playing around with RGB 5050 Led strips and I know I can change the voltage to each leg to vary the over all color.

I am either going to do this with an Arduino or for the moment just adjust the voltage to each leg to get the color I like.

My long term goal is to go from daylight to a light blue for night time ops.

What my question is:

What combination of voltages and or Arduino values for each leg to get close to 5000k - 5500k.

Thanks

Walthers cornerstone crossing signals, install

I searched for info on installing these crossing lights. Seems walthers only had these made for their DC detection circuit. Has anyone installed them on a DCC layout? I will be supplying a seperate DC supply and not track power. All help appreciated. thanks. Tom
