In The Meantime
With no firm date yet for closing on the new house, as the current occupants still have not found a new place, I was fighting a bit of depression as I saw my 2 years of work on the JAM end up in a pile of junk. But then inspiration hit me. I could take 2 of the modules used on JAM and bolt them together and build a temporary switching layout that would keep me occupied and away from Farm Sim 2019.

Bachmann lighting and DCC
Hey all,
Just received a Bachmann On30 coach/observation car with a lighted interior, which came with absolutely no paperwork. I've tried looking everywhere and can't seem to find a square answer...
Will these cars work out of the box on DCC, or do I need to rework the electronics to make them DCC friendly?
In case it matters, currently working with an NCE Powercab system.
Thanks for any help!

Any ideas about the best way to use a grey wash to tone down a painted backdrop?
Painting a backdrop is clearly not like painting a picture. For one thing it is 75 feet long and paint must be mixed in enough quantities to cover a large area. I'm finishing up my backdrop and as anticipated it is a brighter yellow-green than one would like for a backdrop. If it was a painting, I'd just make a slightly blueish grey wash and apply it gradually to the area I wanted to tone down. I'd let gravity keep it from running. Not possible with a backdrop. I'll need to spray it on with an airbrush or mist it so lightly that
Crossing DC Blocks
Old AHM steam engine(2-8-8-4) stops going from 1 block to the next. Works great within a block. Other engines work fine crossing blocks. Both MRC packs are postured correctly for continuous movement.
Spiking HO rail with N scale spikes
Many years ago I tried my hand at hand laying track on an 8' long switching layout. While a bit tedious the end result was very satisfying. My only complaint was I had to drill small holes in the ties or else the HO spikes would split them. That was double work as far as I was concerned.
As I am planning the new Johnstown and Maryville, I have been toying with the idea of hand laying all the track again. But avoiding the tie issue. So I was wondering if I could use N scale spikes on Code 83 HO rail. Has anyone tried that and what was your result?

Adding Weight to Brass or Plastic Locomotives
Just ran across this posting on a repower/regear discussion,.....quite alarming
Don’t ever use white glue to hold lead into any sort of brass model, and preferably never use it at all in any model.

What type of layout would you like to operate on?
There are countless threads in forums about what layout you'd build if you have infinite space/money, or if you had to swap the concept from what you have now.
This isn't one of them.
What would be your ideal layout for someone else? In other words, you get an invite for an op session, you walk into the room and your jaw hits the ground with a very loud thud.
This ideal layout:

Fast Tracks Point Frog Tool - Wearing Out?
I've been building Fast Tracks #6 Switches for many years now, and have probably built in the neighborhood of 40 or 50 switches. I've slowly been wearing down my #6 Point Frog filing jig. The points aren't quite as sharp as they once were, but they seem to still function fine. But the metal where the rail emerges from the jig has gotten very thin, bent, and I had to remove some of it.

Scratch Building a Turntable

Employee Timetables-Station codes
Hi gang,
I do not have my Employee Timetables handy and I'd like to know the codes used at Stations to show things like operators, water tanks, etc. Does anyone out there have a list I could copy? Or know where on the web to find the list, my searches are coming up empty.
Thanks,
Gus
