Another Tool Question

I plan on removing cast-on details from some of my rolling stock. I'm concerned about gouging the plastic and such and want to know what is the best way of doing this.  What do you use and what are your opinions on using modeler's chisels for this purpose?  Do they work?  Could I simply use an exact-o knife with chisel blade?

Opinions and suggestions please?

P.S.  Would be great if we could have a separate section for new/old tool reviews- what works and what doesn't.

Malware and its results

About a month ago my computer was infected by one of those Trojan Horse viruses. It wasn't detected by my security software either. Well I had to send my computer out to be cleaned so I was dependent on other computers to run stuff that I needed to get done. It cam back last night and Decoder Pro had disappeared. The consultant tried to get it but it didn't work primarily because he really didn't know what he was doing.

UP 844 Heads (South) West

UP 844 is heading towards New Mexico and Arizona to celebrate the statehood centennial for both states.

Here's a detailed schedule for the trip. 844 will also be heading to Southern California and will be heading back to Cheyenne via Cajon Pass. I-15, which is a traveling parking lot normally will morph into a real parking lot when 844 goes through.

Is a " Mushroom" layout possible in a 17'x16' room

I'm nearly done with my drywall work. I am planning an On30  three layer layout with a Helix in an adjoining room. I really like the concept of the Mushroom design but I'm not sure that a room 16'x17' is big enough. Has anyone seen an HO or On30 mushroom layout that would fit this size? I have nearly 9' in ceiling height so that isnt an issue. All of the plans I have found are bigger, the smallest is 16'x20'.

Track Plan #2

Alrighty, this is pretty close to the final track plan for the MFTR.

jumping decals

On applying decals to a couple of cast-resin flat cars recently I've experienced jumping decals.  Despite liberal applications of Microsol/Microset, on occasion one or more bits of decal will dry out, fail to adhere, and positively LEAP off the model before I have a chance to Dull Cote it.  Previous lost decals have completely disappeared, but today I managed to track down the missing segment - less than 1/8x1/4" in size - about three feet from where it started.

Tsunami 750 decoder overheating

Hi.

I bought from a outlet in Denver and installed a Tsunami 750 sound decoder for a GE Turbine in my Athearn Veranda turbine this weekend. I ran it and I am impressed with the sound. However, it overheats and shuts down in a few minutes.

I did a web search and this overheating seems to be a common problem. Solutions include the need to place a metal plate or metal backing to help absorb the heat.
