What Loco to buy?

New guy here. I'm constructing a 4 x 8 layout for DCC. I want to purchase a decent locomotive DCC ready. preferably a Santa Fe F7 unit. I don't want to take out a loan to do this. I'm a retired electronics technician and have installed decoders in starter set loco's. I'm looking for something with more power and reliability. I just don't know what brand to choose. I'd like to stay under $100.00 if possible.

Thanks Gerry

Road markings

I understand that the US used white road markings from the mid 50s to the mid 70s. What I do not know is

  1. how thick were these lines?
  2. on a broken center line, how long were the line segments, how long were the breaks?

I'm not even close to having roads on my layout but I'm trying to be prepared when I get there.

Richlawn Railroad V2 - Benchwook Swing Gate Part 3

I did a little more work on the swing gate today because I didn't like how hard it was to open and close due to the friction between the gate and benchwork.  Here's what the benchwork looked like where the gate rests before I started.

2 rail O scale fun

Hey guys, My friend David Stewart hosted an open house a couple weeks ago.  Check out the blog and pictures!  http://www.aorailroad.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=202    I encourage you to explore the rest of the web site too, this is not something you see everyday!  http://www.aorailroad.com/

Pembroke II: South Section Track Nearly Done

Fixed rails done

Tonight I dropped the last section of rail onto the Lee Manufacturing siding and declared the track laying done, except the points on the south section. Interestingly, this was the first time I used one of the Proto:87 Stores rail joiners, all the other rails on this section being only one length long for now. The rail joiner worked great.

Trim Film

I recently tried to use some trim film to do some patching.  I have never seen any instructions on how to use trim film so I thought it was just like a decal.  I could never get the film to come off of the backing in one piece.  Does anyone have any good tips or instructions on how to use trim film?  I think it would be a valuable thing if I can get it to come off the backing correctly.

Ivanhoe Road Scenery

Slow progress but progress nonetheless; more details will follow as I find enhancements in the boxes holding all the stuff "rescued" from the old layout.
