Walthers Part # 433-8314 crossing gate

I bought this used on EBay as part of a 'lot' sale.  There seems to be linkage missing. Anyone have any details on what the linkage should look like.  I know that when the train passes, it depressed the 'wood section in the track.  This in turn pushes an arm up.  I'm missing the connection to make the gate go down.  Please help.  See attached photo.  thanks

iPhone speaker - you might not believe this

Since I've started hearing about people using cell phone speakers in their locomotives, and since my brother-in-law has a cell phone repair business, I asked if he had any spare speakers laying around.  He gave me (despite my offers to pay him) a pair of iPhone speakers and as many dead cell phones as I cared to carry home.  Today I decided to see how the iPhone speaker would sound.

Cheap model bulilding assembly jig

I've been thinking of buying one of those steel trays with magnets for holding structures together while gluing but the other day my son-in-law was dumping an old tower pc.  I took off the sides, hammered flat a couple of tabs and now have two large, flat sheets of steel.  Adding some cheap Pound store magnets has given me an economical alternative.  Money saved to spend on better stuff!

wiring the frog on Micro Engineering turnouts

I've been looking at how best to wire the frog on MicroEngineering code 70 turnouts/switches.  They have a circular extension below the frog that you can solder the wire to, however it would be a butt joint for a wire which would not be very strong.  Is drilling a hole for the wire to be soldered into the best option?  Anyone have any experience or suggestions with this?
