Larger Speaker for New Bachmann S4

Background Information:

I am primarily a model builder but recently became interested in DCC and sound decoders. So I am new to the current technologies. I recently purchased a Bachmann Sound Value S4 and NCE Power Cab. The engine runs great but I am a bit disappointed in the sound quality of the prime mover (There is not enough bass). I was planning on adding a full-functioning Soundtraxx but do not want to invest more money in the loco if the sound quality does not improve.

ie: Horn! - rumble - rumble - Horn!- rumble - rumble...

Anybody?

Bradford Valley Lumber Company #8 - Construction Continues

Hi all,

I've managed to get a bit more done on Bradford Valley Lumber Company #8, an On30 2-6-6-2T I'm scratchbuilding in styrene.

I've added the bands and domes to the boiler, as seen here:

Breaker Breaker (Anthracite Breaker) - Pictures Repaired

In addition to my rolling stock projects, I'm working on kitbashing an anthracite breaker from some Walthers New River Mining kits.  Like many later breakers, mine will be loads in (mine run coal) and loads out (sized, processed coal).

Photos to follow, when it looks like something more then a pile of parts.

Dual Dissimilar Speakers for Better HO Steam Sound

When I introduced the idea of Dual Dissimilar Speakers back in 2006 it fell on deaf ears.

This really works, one speaker is full range say 220-20000Kz and the other has a middle range of about 550-6000Kz which gives a "woofer" sound:

I did the HO Bachmann Decapod before Bachmann offered them. I have a "what I did" at:

Tsunami in an On30 Bachmann Mogul Video

From my Tsunami in a Mogul article:

Dual dissimilar speakers were used one full range and one-mid range to give it woof.

bullfrog turnout control

I am having trouble with my bullfrogs. I am mounting them about 2" under the road bed. (1" foam,1" top shelf of book case). I find the wire that throws the turnout is too 'springy' to throw me M.E. turnouts. Do I need a heavier wire or do I need to mount the bullfrog closer to the road bed? Thanks for your help

Modeling More Water on the 8th Sub

Since completing the Cedar Creek scene http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/13720 , I've worked on some additional watercourses.  Cedar creek used epoxy resin, while these don't.  I like injecting some variety.

Greenwich & Johnsonville Caboose

To compliment my Greenwich & Johnsonville RS3, I'm working on a G&J caboose.

While the prototype is wood, I'm using a modified Atlas TM caboose as a reasonable stand in.
