The internet is your friend

So many times people tout E-bay as the only answer to searching for a particular piece of rolling stock.  Well, many time it is, but another source is a google (or other search engine) search.

For example, a person posted a 6 car set of hoppers that might be what I wanted.  But the photo was poor, and the seller would not give me the car numbers (the reason for my wanting that set of 6) and would not use other than paypal for payment.  Also wanted >$100 for the set.

Pembroke: Siding North Switch

In which I detail laying the switch at the north end of the siding, thereby completing track on the visible portion of the layout.

DCC and scent?

I'm sitting here watching a great film called 'Nebraska'. Lovely opening scene with tank cars set on a BNSF line in Montana. In doing so, I have a waft scent of tar with the windows cracked open on a lovely Summer evening. Living in
a condo in a busy condo construction zone in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. As I watch the film and huff the 'notes' of tar I realize
I am modeling an industry called 'Polytar'. A manufacturer of asphalt shingles.

Magnetic Track Cleaner

Our club's HO layout is quite large and more than 35 years old. There are many looong tunnels; with very poor access to the tracks, which were very overdue for cleaning. So I worked up a temporary cleaning car to push along all the trackage. It picked up half  dozen screws, about 18 or 20 track spikes, two coupler box lids, a couple of stirrups, and two full-length brake staffs, one with its wheel still attached. Also piles of black fluff.

I started with a track inspection car from MicroMark and added a coupler.

Inspection pit for your Roundhouse: free Download in HO and N from Scalescenes

This fine model from SCALESCENES is again available as free download. It is a really nice addition for your roundhouse or as an outside inspection pit. Available in N und 00. Maybe there has to be a small scaling for printing in exact HO via the printer settings. Hurry up with your download.

Contacting Someone

Can you contact someone via personal email from a blog or topic? Specifically, if someone comments on your post and you would like to contact them via email for more information either to share or request that would either be off topic or may not interest others how do you do that?

I tried selecting their screen name but that did not appear to work.

Thank you

Middle school model RR: human clamps

(I apologize that I don’t have a photo to accompany this post. I don’t have a journalist’s reflexes so missed many key moments, but I’m determined to do better this year and maintaining this blog will help).

I post an agenda for every class on my blackboard. I’d had to revise my plans for the week substantially because I naively expected to finish all six L-girders in a single session, and here we were starting the third session with zero completed L-girders. This day’s agenda looked something like this:
