Gauge issues with Code 100 Shinohara 3 way switch

While relaying my staging yard throat to a better layout I elected to use one of my Shinohara 3 way switches as it's geometry fits well with the location. Staging is laid with Code 100 Atlas track and Shinohara switches.

Wye or regular turnout?

This is the former SP&S. Is this a wye or a regular turnout?

It looks like it was former double track, with a connection made to the remaining track and then a jog around a moved signal. Just guessing on all this.

Thanks.

Key-driven Mechanical Switch Machine

As I planned my version of CN's Pine Street spur, I started thinking about how I wanted to throw the turnouts.  I definitely wanted to avoid just pressing a button to throw a switch, hoping that I could find something closer to what is done on the prototype.  There are many mechanical switch machines out there, but I wasn't quite satisfied with the type of actuator that they require, namely pushing/pulling on some type of knob that is mounted against the fascia and in most instances connected via a music wire to the switch machine.

Simple mod - Walthers turnouts for DCC

Modifying a Walthers turnout is much easier than my description.  It took about 15 minutes for the whole thing.  You probably notice the notched ties in the images.  This is acceptable to me after I trim the plastic bits and weather the throw bars.

Whatever the method, the major changes are:

  1. insulate the points from each other and attach them to the throwbar.
  2. Insulate the points from the frog

Walthers C83 Bulk Rail - Still being sold?

Hi,

I will need to re-supply soon and I can't find any place on the web that has any listed in stock. Has anyone heard if Walthers is still making it? Have sent them an email asking the same question.

Brian
