Benchwork - Roadbed
A bridge Over Troubled Carpet
Some of you know that my layout has had a persistent problem - I have an angled gap over the entrance to the aisle on my layout. Due to factors unforseen the angles (each different) at each end of the bridge I needed to span this gap were more than a little weird as well.
I've had three different attempts at bridging the gap with something I could swing out of the way or remove entirely, and all three of them changed sizes on me between winter and summer, tossing my track ends off.
Frustrating.
Well, here is bridge attempt #4:
How wide for subroadbed in HO?
Been busily transferring my trackplan to plywood getting ready to cut the subroadbed. How wide do you guys make yours generally speaking? I will be using WS foam roadbed and I'm just trying to figure out how much plywood I should have on each side of that. I know what I used to do in N scale but now that I'm doing HO, I'm questioning how much extra width beyond the foam I need.

Checking for bench work height with old portable layout (Was from and old railroad plan book). Your looking at a 2 foot wide section over a 1 foot wide section. You can also see the reach problem with the 2 foot wide section.
Distracted by modules
I went to the N scale "Meet-N-March" last month and got my juices going about building a module for either oNeTrak or Free.Mo.N standards. I have been on the Yahoo group lists for a year or two now, and there had not been much activity in awhile. I ran into some folks at the meet (Mr.
Cork roadbed from Midwest not available at LHS
I went to My local Hobby Shop to buy some HO scale cork roadbed but they were out so I asked them to order some for me and was told that they couldn't get any as Midwest had stopped production of it. They couldn't say when or if they would start production again.. Anybody else having trouble getting cork roadbed?
Cork Roadbed
Anyone else having problems getting cork roadbed?
It appears that there is some kind of conspiracy afoot to keep us model railroaders "jonesing" for cork roadbed. Even Midwest lists it on their website as being "Out of Stock Until Further Notice"!
I don't know who is behind this, but it has to be someone pretty high up in the food chain! Possibly the CFR or the Bildebergers, or maybe even the Bohemian Grove group. They may be working with the extra-terrestrials who are based in Area 51!
The Truth is out there!

A really stupid question about transferring a plan to benchwork....
But I want to be sure. Referencing the plan shown here....

More Questions on Hardboard Splines
I've been absorbing all the information posted about spline roadbed these past months as I plan on giving it a try on my new layout. I had initially planned to use Masonite hardboard (and am still leaning that direction), but I've got a couple questions regarding using this material.
I have a table saw to cut the splines. Is there any particular blade that seems to do best for ripping them from 4'x8' panels?
Again: More subroadbed for the Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad
I'm running out of smart titles for these posts. I will be posting this kind of stuff for weeks to come. I have decided to complete all the subroadbed for the whole railroad to get all the dirty woodcutting done. I have used this approach before and it has so far always worked for me.
So again: more subroadbed. I have finished the first peninsula and about 40 feet along 2 walls. The second peninsula will come next.
Hope you all enjoy the pictures!
