Assembly of Cache Creek Scale Models Freight Trucks

This is an On30 car. It has freight trucks with separate side frames and center piece, (bolster?), and wheels. Directions are 2 photos and one line of directions about inserting bearing into side frame. That's it there is nothing else!!!frown

Weight for CV 40' flat car kit

Does anyone have a method or knows of a method for adding weight to the CV 40' flat car kit? It looks like it will turn out to be a nice addition to the roster but the way the kit is I do not see any options for adding weight.

Hazmat Training Cars

While visiting family in Spring, TX, I saw these hazmat training cars in the wye.  They are used to train first responders on tank cars and tank car safety, and familiarize them with the various access hatches and connections on tank cars.  While these are very rare cars, they do move around a lot and can be seen in locations that have a lot of hazmat passing through. About 5 years ago I was in Essington, PA (south of Philadelphia) and saw the NS versions of these cars.

NP 40' Boxcars project (HO)

Hi all,

I finished 2 NP 40' boxcars based on Trix/Marklin 40' cars. The original cars had their paint removed and were disassembled. Following conversion of their sills to the correct NP ones and alterations on the side rivets, they were primed. Painting was done with mixes from Gunze and Tamiya paints while I used Microscale's decals. Roofs were painted with shades of Alclad2 and were weathered using salt-weathering. The rest of the weathering was done using enamels/oils.

SP C-30-4 bay caboose bash

I read an article in an old 2009 back issue of N Scale Magazine and decided to give the project a try today.

to build a c-30-4 that is pretty correct, you use the body and center section of the cast frame from a ConCor bay caboose, and then the outer section of the frame containing the steps and bolsters from an Atlas cupola caboose.

To finish it off you replace the railing /ladders and roofwalks with parts from a gold medal detailing kit.

This is what I started with:

Digging through "old" photos - "pretty shades of rust"

Good afternoon all,

I was going through some "old" ( 2009 ) images that were taken while on a historical group's safari. These images were taken while watching a crew operate a remote engine to switch cuts of gondolas. The unused (and  VERY rusty) track on the right hand side of this picture and other details were a pleasant discovery when viewed afterwards!

Scale Trains Rivet Counter SD 40-2

Scale Trains Rivet Counter SD 40.

My first scale trains model and it is not a smooth runner. Jerks, bucks, hesitates, somethings binding, call it what you will.

Bombardier Jettrain

A project i had in my mind for many years is the Jettrain prototype build by Bombardier. Prototype Information can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JetTrain

1980s Containers, early 1990s? Anyone have links?

Hi, just looking into containers and I have had no luck on finding a website that show 1980s and early 90s containers. Seems people started photographing them in the hundreds around 2000... :-/  Can anybody share a link or post that can help my choose what containers (paint schemes) to buy that would be accurate for the period?

Thanks so much!

Martin
