Joe Fugate: Heavier than lead car weighting?
Joe,
That's a great idea! I had previously used a mixture of white glue and tungsten powder but the white glue sort of defeated the purpose. Thanks for the great suggestion. But two questions arise?
What type of plaster did you use for your comparison of density of the mixture? Is Hydrocal (remember that name?) significantly heavier than plaster of Paris? Which did you use and should I be concerned about that choice?
Keep up the great work!
Matt
SMA33 Working Single Axle HO Traction Motors: Success at Cajon Pass
Prototype diesel-electric locomotives use a diesel engine driving an electric generator to power DC (or more recently AC) motors wrapped around a single axle of a wheelset. The equivalent is not usually found in HO scale… until now. There is a story behind this, with a path leading in unanticipated directions. A “working” HO single axle traction motor can be built. This bit of experimental modeling starts here, but this is likely not the end of the story.
Athearn announces ICC Cabooses

Athearn is in the middle of a live stream on their Facebook page from Princeton, IL where there is one of the prototypes of the ICC Wide Vision caboose (including versions with sound) that they are releasing.
DCC on an analog layout.
My layout is DC cab control. I see lots of new locomotives labeled DCC ready, and some that apparently have DCC controllers but can run on regular DC, Do these suffer in terms of throttle response on regular DC in comparison to older DC locomotives?
