Modeling New ERA High power Diesels RR's vs Modeling early ERA To end of Steam Model RR's Which is your Favorite?

Where do your preferences lay and what made you a Model Railroader?

Many new model railroaders never experienced Steam and never were able to witness that plume of Black Smoke and steam barreling up into the morning sky and that long whistle blowing through the Valley as the engineers gave there notice of coming down the line.

What is the best type of paint to use on plastic engine shells?

I have started detailing engines and am not sure what paint to use.  I have been using airbrushed acrylic paints with acrylic matte coating, but I am not too thrilled with the results.  Does anyone have suggestions on a different type of paint to try?

Need a good and fast paint remover

Looking for something to use to take the paint off complete off plastic engines and cars with out to much elbow grease.

I have tried Testors ELO (easy lift off paint and decal remover) this stuff is to slow and does not work to good .

Just got done trying 90 %  isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush and after about 4 hours of scrubbing of two layers of commerical applied paint on a engine did not do such a good job either.

Trueline Trains C-Liner

Welll.....after almost 4 months in the post, the Trueline Trains Canadian National C-Liner with DCC and Sound I ordered from MRH sponsor CMT finally arrived!

Here she is right out of the box - I've been looking for this model, as the C-Liners were very common on the Central Vermont mainline hauling through freights in the 50's.

Thanks again to Mike and Tom at CMT

Trainworld Bachmann Shays

Hi Jack from Star Idaho.  Another question about the HO Bachmann Spectrum Shay.  I see all over the internet Spectrum three truck shays with and without sound ranging in price from $300-$400 and even higher at times.  However, Trainworld sells a Bachmann Spectrum 80 ton three truck Shay for $119.00 without sound and $199.00 with Tsunami DCC and sound.  What gives?  Is there a difference in quality between the high priced shays and the one Trainworld sells?  I purchased one DCC ready for $119.00 and I have had nothing but problem

Maintaining Bachmann HO Shay

Hi Jack from Star, Idaho.  I have a question about lubing a three truck shay.  Each truck has gears on one side and I was wondering what those gears should be lubed with or not?  I have not found any information on this so I would appreciate some good advice.  Thanks...Jack Strong

What's your "Golden" memory of railroading?

We all have something inside us that fuels the passion. A childhood memory of railfanning or growing up and playing by the rails. Something!!! Without exception, everybody was once a newbie with no experience; nothing but some inspirational memory.
