Locos - Rolling stock (general)
BLMA 64' Trinity Reefer - new photos
Craig Martyn posted a photo of the HO and N Scale test shots of one of BLMA's next freight cars - the 64' Trinity Refrigerated Boxcar - over at the BLMA page on Facebook a couple of days ago. So I asked him if he had any additional photos of the reefers that I could post here - and he did.
Spectrum Shay Decoders
Hi Jack from Star, Idaho. I have a question about the Bachmann Spectrum 80 ton Three Truck Shay. I have read about a sound board from Soundtrax for the Shay. Anyone know about these or what is the best sound decoder for this loco? Another thing does the yellow capacitor 105 need to be removed with DCC? I have read too many articals and I guess I'm a bit confused. I need some advise on what to do and where to get the right product.
MDC Cimax and 44T Marriage
I've finally solved, at least in a roundabout way, my camera /computer hardware problems and can upload pictures.
Like many other modellers who model mining and logging I wanted a MDC Climax on the roster. Mine ran as well as could be expected, but I wanted something better. A friend suggested using a 44T frame and drive, so I went asearching on the net. I found two sites, one a blog entry describing how the modeller made his conversion and the other a commercial site, Neither satisfied my need for simplicity (read no shell cutting) or the pocketbook.
My whacky conspiracy theory. . .
I was on FaceBook tonight and Athearn posted pre-production photos of their new SP Bay Window Caboose:

How to machine loco wheels
Hey everyone, looking for input on how i can shrink the flanges on my n-scale sw1200 without a few thousand dollars in machining equipment.
Is there a poor man's way to turn down those flanges?
Cars Roll on 1/2% Grade?
Do metal wheel HO freight cars weighted to NMRA RP with free rolling trucks roll on their own on a 1/2% (0.5) grade? If so, what grade have you found to be acceptable that cars won't roll away on their own?
Sorry, typo in original post.
Detailing Reading GP39-2s & MP15s (pictures repaired)
In addition to my Reading C424s, I also have some of Reading's last engines.
The engine that started my Reading modeling, an Atlas MP15. The stock model needed little extra detail. I only added the Sinclair radio antenna, Reading drip strips, the footboards and speed recorder.
Need feedback on two products I'm considering
Hi folks.
I've recently started a couple loco builds. I have a few blue box Athearn and Rail Power locos, along with the accompanying detail parts, that I've had for some time. I want to go ahead and build them so I can focus on the more up-to-date loco models available now that require less mods for appearance and smooth operation.
My Questions:
Looking forward to.....
I am trying to generate some interest in getting Bachmann, Athearn Horizon, Intermountain, BLW to do RTR smaller Southern Pacific steam locomotives in addition to cab forwards, GS series or MT's.
