Locos - Rolling stock (general)

Should I send it back?

I just got a new Athearn SW1500....I'm not sure I'm happy with it. I got a SW1000 before this and it runs like it's on glass and low noise, this one is loud and runs real bad at low speeds.

Here is a video of the engine, the Red SW1500 is moving at first with a cab setting of 4 ( NCE power cab ) back and fourth, then I move the Green SW1000 BN with the same cab speed and then change it to 1, then back to the Red SW1500 on 1 and you can see the difference and hear ti too.

For the Reading RR modelers

Hi Reading modelers

From recent posts I gather that quite a few members model The Reading RR.  While trying to do some research on a rr to model I stumbled on this.  This man models the Shamokin Division of the Reading in O scale.  I don't know anything about the Reading (except for the Monopoly game) and  I didn't have time to read his website so I don't know how valuable this info will be to anyone,  Here is the website:

Decoder for a PCM T-1

I have a straight DC PCM Reading T-1.   Recently, I equipped it with a TCS T1 decoder using the quick plug.   The decoder programed fine on the programing track. When I put the T-1 on the main, I got a short, and released the magic smoke from the decoder.

Any ideas of what went worng?

Iantha branch roster

Hello again every one. Thank for welcoming and I don't mind answering questions. Best way to see what going on with my layout is to go to my youtube channel. Link is in my signature. Anyway the piont of this post, my loco roster. Still working on expanding it (one can never have too many locomotives )

I don't know why the pictures are so grainy. They aren't like that on my computer

Building up your rolling stock fleet...

My question to the MRH masses is:

"How did you build up your rolling stock, and what defines your choices?"

I'm at the stage in the layout build that I'd like to start building up my rolling stock so that as the layout develops I can start to run a few small ops sessions on the completed sections.

Short Line Boxcars (pictures repaired)

I have a weakness for Short Line/Incentive Per Diem Boxcars.   In additiion to a number of Bev Bel cars I've acquired, I also have a growing fleet of custom painted cars.

These two are Atlas Trainman Boxes done using some old Herald King decals:

JL&T Railway Blog - Fleet Update...

 Hi All,

Well it's been awhile since I have been able to post anything, I've been rather busy with the latest edition to the family and work.  Today though marked a great day in the expansion of the locomotive fleet of the JL&T.

IT comes to HL&B

Some bad video of My new (to me...aka Used) Gp 38-2 IT. I have to stop buying Engines and rolling stock, I keep playing and not working on the layout. I hope you like this one.

Missabe Coal Hopper Weathering

Hey – first blog post…!

A couple of weeks ago, I asked if anyone had photos of the slope sheets of hoppers to see what the metal looked like after the lading had taken its toll on the paint.  The cars seem to get worn to the metal in a curving shape that approximates the outside edge of a full load.  Original post is here:

My new SW

Some really bad video of my new Athearn SW1000 on my layout.

Where the Bridge is the two foam sheets came together. I decided to make a little bridge scene, does it look ok? I mean as far as you can tell from the poorly made video????

Thanks all for looking. This site is so cool. I wish I found it sooner.
