Line poles at river crossings
I have a question about how railroads handled line/telegraph poles at river crossings.
How would the lines be strung across a wider river? I have a CV Pratt Truss and it's about 21" long. It seems a long way to have the wires in free space if you put a pole on each bank of the river. Would they somehow mount them on the actual bridge?

Slowly but Surely
More progress on Red Eye Saloon. Those little board ends are tricky for an unsteady hand!
Mike Confalone - Allagash Railway weathered freight cars on EBAY
A quick note for anyone interested. I am going to be selling weathered freight cars on EBAY. Some of these will be Allagash Railway rolling stock, and others will be in any number of roadnames. Any cars listed are hand-weathered by me, using many of the techniques discussed in my freight car weathering video series produced by MRH a few years ago. If there is some success, I will be doing this on a weekly basis. I have more than enough cars to run the railroad, so some of these will hopefully find a happy home somewhere else!

Anybody have info on this kind of TOFC ramp from the 1970's
I want to add detail to the ramp on my late 70's ATSF layout based on McPherson, KS. This is cropped from a picture I took in 1978. I want to add the wheel ramp(?) but I can't quite figure out how it works. The surface you can see looks like the "top" that the wheels would ride on. To do that it would have to flip up toward the flat car and down to the edge of the ramp. You can see some kind of brace/swing arm connected to the steel ramp.
Mesh Window Covering
I'm scratchbuilding a model (HO scale) of a structure that has a "mesh" covering over two smaller rear windows, presumably to act as "burglar bars". This mesh is not square, but sort of diamond shaped, if you will. Sort of like tulle, but smaller.
Any suggestions as to a product out there that I could use, either a commercial product or a craft store type product?
Appreciate any leads/suggestions!
Thanks,
Al Carter
Model Masterpieces Ltd #122 - Brick Roundhouse - Pics or Addition Instruction Sheets?
All,
I just picked up a Model Masterpieces Ltd. 130' Roundhouse off of ebay. The model came with three double sided instruction pages and one 18 x 24 full size drawing. I was wondering if anyone has built this kit and if there were any additional instruction sheets?
I suspect no since this is an old kit, 1981 era. Not a problem if that's all there is for instructions, I'll figure it out.
