Scenery - Structures
Strange Question on Static Grass
Has anyone ever tried (or contemplated) mowing the grass? I was thinking (always a dangerous occupation for me) that model lawns never seem right to me. Either the "grass" is flattened or is too high. Was wondering if electric hair clippers could be used with appropriate standoffs to do the trick.
Any other suggestions? (btw-Just ordered the Woodland Scenics Static King, so not just an idle question).
New 3D Printer
Finally did it.
About 6 months ago I bought a 3D printer. This was something I have been familiar with for years as an engineer. Prototyping part on 3D was fairly new and expensive. 6 figures expensive for a good machine.
Painting My Laser Cut Barn Kit
I am getting ready as assemble a laser cut barn kit. The manufacturer is American Model Builders. The manufacturer recommends airbrushing the model and using a solvent based paint. I would like to paint the barn some shade of red, but there are so many variations of the color red. Has anyone assembled a barn and painted it a red color and if so what did you use?
Wherarewe Cat
Wherarewe Cat resides on the east end of Wyocena yard. I normally like to scratch build but I have had this Walther's kit (International Truck) for some time and the location on the layout has changed a number of times before construction. Still have a bunch of scenery work to do around the dealership and the lights need to be hooked up.
6th Ave Scenery
Next scenery project is the area around 6th Ave Yard. I have the the yard office and the support buildings done, now to the homes around 6th Ave.
Laser Cut Structure Bracing
I am planning on assembling my first laser cut structure. My question is, I was told to prevent any warpage of the structure that I should glue two horizontal wood strips on the backside walls of the structure. Is this a valued suggestion?
Modeling my childhood home - Part 3: Figuring out dimensions
;I'll need dimensions to start the process of cutting out the parts. It's hard to believe how time flies, but it was 10 years ago that my wife, sister, and I visited my childhood home after contacting the current owner to get permission. She was very gracious and not only allowed us to take pictures of the outside but invited us inside to see the home. What a blast from the past! She has done a great job with the house and wanted me to send pictures of the finished model.
Next Project - Customisable Roads...
Have been experimenting with a new concept for scalable, customisable roads, that can be installed in minutes...
Modeling my childhood home - Part 2: Switching to traditional scratch built techniques
I got to thinking that if I was going to build many structures then the laser route was the way to go; however, I only plan on building this one structure so.....
I’ve decided to just scratch build it using pre-made brick sheets and styrene.
more to come...
