Laser Etching a Stone Arch Bridge's Facade

Laser Etching a Stone Arch Bridge's Facade

DIY photo backdrop folks, 2 questions for you .....

For those that print your own smaller backdrops what paper are your using?  I' thinking building shots for my mill scene to fill in the noticeable emptiness and lack of depth

Also, has anyone tried sanding the paper thinner to better hid the hard edge?  I'm thinking similar to like was done to thin magazine ads to apply to buildings for a poor man's decals.

TIA

A Mid-Century Modern Retail Store

For several months I've been working on a small-town downtown scene with two streets and seven structures. Six of the seven buildings are from Design Preservation Models kits and wall panels which I have had for many years, spruced-up with new details, interiors, and lighting. For the seventh building, I wanted to do something different than the standard transition-era town, yet still correct for my layout era of 1954-1956.

Looking at houses, does this outbuilding look like an ATSF section house?

Was in Kansas a  couple of months ago, looking for a house.  Came across this outbuilding behind a home in Cherryvale.  To me it looks like a Sante Fe section house.  Any opinions?

House was not what we wanted but this would have been a great train building!

Road Line Jig.

There have been some posts on several model railroad Facebook pages recently on lane widths for roads. I have been following these discussions intently as I am in the process of building an entrance road to my intermodal facility and my next project will be roads in a downtown area.

Assembly problem: GHQ Log Loader kit (N scale)

Has anyone else assembled this kit? In every picture I can find, the small boom (left) looks like its supposed to fit between inside the joint at the end of the big one (right). But obviously, this won't work. The instructions aren't helpful on this point. I have two of this kit, so it's unlikely to be damage to the kit.

Transformer Station

I already posted this on the April Workbench thread, but I thought I'd put a longer post here. I'm using the Model Power State Power Substation kit as the transformer yard for my paper mill (paper mills suck juice, easily enough to justify respectably large supply hardware). Model Power kits are a little...basic, but with some work they can look pretty good.

lumbermill

I found this information about Logging operations and Lumbermills that some of you might find interesting.

this ebook has chapers on logging and milling operations and was published in 1910 so would be a good source for that era and later.

Getting the Backing Off AMB Shingles

I've been experimenting with the American Model Builders peel and stick shingles. Specifically set #285 3-tab shingles. I like the appearance of this product, they adhere well and take coloring very well. My problem has been with removing the backing from the shingles. I've been using a knife blade to try to find the separation plane for each strip of shingles. Sometimes I find it and sometimes I get a spot that is 2 plies of the paper. Once I get it started it's no problem. Does the group have any advice on starting a peel?
