Container
Got a container today. At first this seems to be quite ordinary. But unboxing was like a locomotive:
Container is really nice made, detailed and printed:
Speaking of static grass...
A question for the more experienced static grass masters. When using the Peco, WSS, or other layering spray to apply successive longer fibers, Is it advisable to dilute the adhesive? I have replicated Kathy's results as shown in her video using 2.5mm, 4mm, and 7mm fibers but the process was quite frustrating.
Check out what I won from Miniprints.ca
During one of the recent NMRAx virtual meets, Miniprints.ca ran a contest for a $50 gift certificate. Since it only involved posting a couple hashtags to my Facebook page, I decided to enter.
And, rather to my surprise, I won. Then came the really fun part... deciding what of the many 3D printed figures I wanted to get (and what would be appropriate for my layout). Most of the figures offered were animals, and I do have a creek and a wooded area, so that seemed to be the way to go. And yeah, I spent more than $50 there...
A new look for Humbird
I tend to bounce form project to project until one is finished. So, I work on the all of the layout, a little here, a little there. One of the areas I have been working on is the village of Humbird. I have been redoing the streets and made one part of the street a construction area.
Old school N Scale Scratch build
My fiend Joe D’Amato gave me some wood kirs a while back, one of them was complete, the other, not so much. But it did have a lot of lumber, some corrugated siding and board and batton…he’s also friends with the owner of Campbell Models in Oregon. Campbell doesn’t have any desire to make more N Scale kits, but their HO is a great source of inspiration…my inspiration for this is their Paint Factory…
Mix for Craft Paints
Does anybody on this site use off the shelf crafts to paint their structures? I would like to start using them since Poly Scale is no longer made. I don't want to paint a whole structure by hand, so I want to know what would be a good way to reduce them for air brushing. What would be the specific mix formula?
Thanks
Richard
How model weather vane and model of a model
Below are two photos of the elements on the top of a station i am modeling -- White River Junction Vermont. I would appreciate any advice on how to model these- especially the steam engine -- a model of a model. Both the vane and the steam engine will be about 1 CM length to scale.
Modeling drainage flow
I have one drainage pipe that feeds into the Rock River on my Iowa Interstate Milan branch layout. In preparation for modeling the drainage, I glued a piece of Stretch Magic cord from the pipe to the river to form a realistic looking arch. I'll now start to build up and sculpt the flow using multiple layers of Golden Soft Gel Gloss. The last photo shows the first layer of soft gel. Future layers will fill the pipe halfway and be wide at the opening then taper down to the river. The agitated water will also be built up via layers.
New Project from the 3D printer and 2Dcutter
Time to show an update of a new project still working on completion. This uses 2D cutting 3D printing and traditional model techniques. The 3 items are made using a combination of several processes.
The barn sides and roof panels were were designed and cut on a 2D Cricut from 4 mm chipboard. After assembly they wer sprayed with 2 coats of clear matte lacquer inside and out
