Thoughts on "craftsman kits"

Craftsman quality structure kits have been on my mind a lot lately, both because I have just completed my first build of one and because I am helping a friend dispose of a lifelong collection. This has led to a lot of research as I track down original product numbers and prices, and try to get an idea when various items were produced. That in turn has given me an overview of a part of the hobby I had never paid much attention to.

Wausau & Western - a MILW Subsidiary

Hello guys! I made a new topic (my previous was "Layout from Slovenia") for my layout Wausau and Western - a MILW Subsidiary, 1950-1959. It is a freelance layout, my imagination. I've been modeling on the layout for the last 5, 6 months and here I have the result. The structures are kits (Downtown Deco and Monster Modelworks) or my scratch built projects. All the conifers I made by myself using different kinds of techniques. The deciduous trees are natural material (Super Trees).

Hekawi layout update.

So, I was going to do an update on my layout blog, and was putting it off, because I was all like "But I don't have photos", and a friend who is visiting was all "isn't that your camera? Isn't photography like... kinda your job?"

*b███h*

*ahem*

So I took some photos.

Okay, so, you can see pink foam through it, but, remember, I haven't painted it yet.

Korrugated- or tiled roofs from PVA-glue

Hi! :) Did you know it´s really easy to mold corrugated steel roofs, as well as tiled roofs using PVA-glue.

Where has this guy been all my modeling life?

I'm talking about Luke Towan, owner of Boulder Creek Railroad and one amazing modeler. I stumbled upon his You Tube videos over the weekend and spent nearly all of sunday afternoon watching each and every one of them. going, "damn, this guy is good!"

If you have never seen his videos I urge you to go to YouTube and do a search for him. You will not be disappointed.

Roads and parking lots.

A couple recent posts have started me thinking and rethinking roads and parking lots. Craig BNML2 and Nscaler 88 have brought two different approaches to the table recently.

Water Depth (HO)

I'll helping a friend who is modeling a portion of a shallow bay with concrete piers across it. The bay in HO scale would be 1-1.65" deep mimicking the real water. He has the room to model something like that but I was curious about pouring a water mix like Woodland Scenics (like their new water system) or another brand to that depth.

Should he do the full treatment as usual with painting and mimicking water depth, darkness, etc and pour the full height? In layers? Maybe 6-7 layers in the 1.65" inch areas?

Thanks.
