Revell Sand house

Hi All, anybody know if the old Revell sand house had a prototype either in the hobby press or in real life? Modeling the Blue Hill and Eastern in Maine. Thanks Geoff

Engine Shop details Large "modern" Lathe

So, at my Club, we're finally getting ready to fix and detail the interior of the roundhouse.

The structure is the Walthers kit. A brick building, fairly large. There was some discussion and while we all liked the idea of a vast pull driven shop, we all agreed that for the model as we have it, that might be a little out of place. At minimum, the belt driven machines would likely have been retrofitted with Electric motors.

Chipping fluid vs. Hairspray?

After reading a lot of different forum posts here and on other forums about the "chipping" method of weathering I'm curious if anyone on this forum has experience using any of the commercial products vs using hairspray. I know of two companies that make a "chipping solution" (Ak Interactive and Vallejo).

To me $5 or 6 for a 2 oz or so bottle of chipping fluid seems a bit high, when I can buy hairspray for about the same price and get more volume.

However, I'm willing to spend the money if someone can convince me that using these commercial products will be better than hairspray.

Plasticville Stable parts

This is the SECOND brand new, unopened Plasticville building I've bought that is missing parts right out of the box... it is SO frustrating. It is the Blacksmith/Livery Stable set #2909... it was sealed, with the parts sealed on their board and bag inside as well... but, it's missing the Chimney vent (2 pieces) the chimney (2 pieces) Std. door, 2 loft pulleys, hanging sign, 3 windows, and the stall front! (I'm guessing they are all on the same parts tree)

Help with crossbucks

In the attached image, I have mocked out a road shape from my ice house across the tracks to the "outside". As you can see, it crosses two industry spurs. They are more than a standard double track distance apart. What I need to know is - would there be crossbucks at both tracks or just one pair with - maybe - "Two Tracks" on the posts? Or, maybe as they are industry spurs, no crossbucks at all?

Joshua Trees

Does anyone make HO scale (any scale, really) Joshua Trees?

Or am I going to have to invent a way of making them myself?

Even a tutorial would be cool (I've looked and keep getting results for post cards, and "U2" swag)

Lots of progress on the Office Park Zone

I have managed to get quite a few little tasks done on the layout over the last few days. I painted all the ties, cut out and painted the paved areas for the Latex and Lumber Distributors, painted the road surface, and made some lumber loads.  More details and pictures in a following post.

Back to Work... Preparing to install the BTS Coal Tipple

I've been thinking about starting a new blog topic on installing my tipple, and since all my photo links are now broken might as well get a clean start.  (Not even going to get into my thoughts on how PB managed their "transition").  For the time being I'll upload my railroad photos here on the MRH site.
