Layout design

A simple manual turntable Part 1

I am so determined to make from scratch a manual turntable, as my funds are limited and I like the challenge.

Something like this, but with a flat base instead.

I've assembled a turntable kit years ago and learned a lot and will apply this to my project.

So far I have got myself two bearings, a rod, and enough wood to make two turntable bridges in case I mess one up.

Seeking help to use best of space in room

I am starting the project this summer and the concept has been done.  I freelance my railway - the Ontario Eastern - its is a railway that is proto -freelance. I model the modern day up to a point, most of the engines on the layout will be 6 axle.  There are certain areas that i will be modeling, but I am trying to figure out the best way to build the layout - that being down the right side, up on the left to a island, down that and up the wall on the left.

Separate Layout Room/Building

I have an opportunity to build a 16x20-24' outbuilding dedicated for a layout. I'm looking for feedback from people who have layouts in buildings away from their main house.  How does the isolation from the rest of the house suit you? I would think being isolated (on mine approx 30-40' away from house) might deter one from doing any work on the layout. At times I am sure its nice, but you get my drift.

What are some pro's and con's that you've discovered. And would you do it again or what would you do differently?

Gorre & Daphetid Sorethroat Branchline Mk2

Due to a job change and house move I have started to tear down my british N scale and american H0 scale layouts. My new layoutroom is smaller than the actual one so I can't use parts of the Sorethroat branch layout. But I try to reuse as much track as possible. For my new H0 G&D Sorethroat branch layout I was inspired by two track plans from Ian Rice, one is small town on the prairie and the other is White Horse Logger, where I used the Lumber Mill trackplan.

Looking for Model Railroad Planning 2010

Hi,

I'm looking for a copy of Model Railroad Planning 2010. I'm particularly interested in Paul Dolkos's new Baltimore Harbor design. Please contact me offline if you have one for sale (loumickie@msn.com).

Thanks,

Lou

The Future

With a family in planning, mid last year, it was decided that I would retire Bridgewater from the exhibition circuit, which in turn gave the ability to finally start building my dream home layout.

As Bridgewater was in good condition, I decided it would become the centrepiece of the new layout, which will be a multi-level proto-freelanced version of the main south line that runs roughly south-east from Adelaide to the Victorian border at Serviceton.

Lemonade from lemons

.After doing extensive scenery work I decided to vacuum the rails.  I always hate that even though I do have a small vacuum...the hose is too stiff and the rigid end is too long.  I seem to always hit at least one thing!

Big Horn Sub Design/Build

With my layout build well underway, there should be adequate material to make a periodic blog post about progress on the Big Horn Sub. This post is intended to provide some background on my modeling experiences and what led me to the Big Horn build.

TT Scale "TOMA"

I ready to start a TT scale TOMA module. I have 6 track plans firmly decided upon for building. I'll present the first one now. The track plan came for the December 1963 Model Railroader called Western Logging Co. I've made some 3D drawing with major dimensions of the module.

This is the track plan for the first module.
