Layout design

the Central Midland layout by John Armstrong, Atlas plan #29

I bought this layout as just a bench work frame with sectional brass track. My ‘interim plan’ was to just clean up the brass track, smooth out its form, solder all the joints of the sectional track together to obtain some good electrical contact, and then run some trains.

I would then sell it off to another rr-fan and build my dream layout.

Prototypical Operation

I have built two freelanced "medium" size HO layouts in the past. Having moved again a few years back, its time to build the next one. This time I am keen to replicate some part of Great Northern's Wenatchee area, probably the Wenatchee-Oroville branch line in eastern WA, (or "The Rusty Dusty" - by the way, what a great book by Matt McCulloch and John Langlot). Main traffiic was fruit and lumber, with some mining. The time period is not yet fixed, but likely 40's of 50's.

West Haven Industrial Rwy. : TOMA or not TOMA

I can't keep my excitement contained.

I just read the September Model Railroader and there was an excellent article on building a operational layout in less than 48 hours. It is a small switching layout. Then I download and opened the September MRH and read Publisher's Musings about arranging a couple of TOMA modules in a 4x10 arrangement. Couple this (pun intended) to the reminiscing article on one man's 4x10 layout (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/30616) and I am getting excited. I've always had a place in my heart for the 4x8ish layout.

Santa Rita Mini Layout

Hi from Argentina. I live in a small house with my family, and due to lack of space, found this way for have a layout. Is a floating shelf that contains a small switching layout and serves to store other house stuff. I made it taking into account the available space and it was carefully designed to aestetically fit with the existing furniture in my dining room. It works as a decorative piece when not in use, which means 99,9% of the time. For me, is very rewarding to watch my trains when I´m home, and furthermore is like to have a 3D picture in the middle of the room.

The Cut

Now that the Elsmere Bridge is pretty well done, time to move north to the cut between Elsmere and Montchanin.

Drawbridges

I may be in need of a drawbridge for my new layout design.

i know of, and have one of the nice Walther's ones, but it is too long / large for my space

i remember seeing lots of 'cheapies' when i first got started back in the hobby. I think there were various makers,
Tyco, AHM, Pola, etc      ...and some of these were not not that bad, particularly if 'doctored up'

I went looking for images of these various ones, and particularly some DIMENSIONS for them. I'm having trouble finding the info,...HELP

Ideas for 12' x 24' TuffShed® build (N-scale): What would you do?

I'm thinking of buying a 12' x 24' TuffShed to house a brand new N-scale layout. Would like to hear from those who've built in similar spaces. The TuffShed uses normal 2" x 4" lumber for wall-studs, and overall, its components are similar to traditional house-building materials (more info here).

TOMA approach for getting from Future layout to Present.

Hi all,

I have almost finished designing my future layout destined for a permanent future house (when the time comes...), that fits the prototype/locale i like.
