Layout design

Mountainous terrain on a shelf layout?

This came up in another discussion about industrial/urban themed shelf layouts and I didn't want to clutter up that thread so I thought I'd start anew here.

Radio Control Layout

Has anyone experience with radio control?  Pros & Cons vs DCC?

Old Thread about The CVR in N Scale.

Well, here I go again, time to redesign the Credit Valley Railway (CVR) in N Scale.

Brief Prototype History:

Switching layout

Hi!

I model H0 and I´m in the design process of an industrial layout but space is tight, so I don´t want a main line.

Does anyone have an industrial layout with no main track?

Using cassettes for staging

I have built a number of cassettes to be used whenever I get a railroad built.  They consist of short lengths of hardwood with 1" aluminum angles, gauged so that the part of the angle that is affixed to the board is set to HO track gauge.

The difficulty is that I cannot get locos to operate on them when I connect my DCC system to the angles with alligator clips.  I get good conductivity with a multimeter.

A different idea on getting through the door

As I read the thread about the new Richlawn Railroad, I had an idea.  Rather than taking over Rich's thread, I'll start my own.

German HO adventure

After dismantling the N scale Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad I have started to build my new HO railroad. I have modeled in HO scale before but it has been many years so I will have to learn many new things and step into many new traps.

As I'm a native of Germany I chose to build a German layout. I built such a layout before during a 3 year stay in Germany from 2005 to 2008 and therefore have a lot of German rolling stock, track and accessories. I hope everybody here finds it interesting enough to have a look.

Track Work, Geometry Class

Man, I am glad I took geometry!

This is a snippet of the track planning guide for Marklin C-track. I really like this track and the geometry constraints may limit design, but hey, it also limits design!  Meaning, less time to deliberate, as I am very indecisive!

Street Car Lines

I'm working on a downtown scene for our club layout and would like to have a street car line included in the scene. It has been suggested that I use a silver tape to represent the rails of the street car line; this seems quite lame. I would like to have actual rails imbedded in the street pavement (will be made of styrene). I seem to have seen a system for accomplishing this and to make the street car line operational as well. Does anyone have suggestions?
