Layout design
layout design for cement plant
According to walthers the glacier gravel company is an immitation of a stone crush and washer and the valley cement company is an actual cement production plant so I will build them seperatly and place them on close together and join the two using a conveyer system to create a large industrial area is this a good idea or if it was you designing the layout would you keep them far apart and use rail transport
N scale coffee table layout. plans needed please
Due to limited space, my HO shelf layout will have to wait for awhile. BUT I do sort of need, well, maybe build a new coffee table. I'm looking for a N scale 4'x2' coffee table layout. 4'x2' inside measurements are minimum. Just curious how high the table should be, and what to build it from. I'm looking at oak plywood for the finish and 3/4" for the bed. I'm looking at clear sides as well as as a hinged top. drawers underneath are also wanted. And how deep should this table be? IE: building height?
Suggestions anyone? Where can I find some plans for this project?
New website with free track plans and layout designs
Hello all :)
There is a new website for collect together model train track plans and layouts in all scales and sizes, designed with SCARM planning software:
Operational concept of "Industry Ave"
I already presented the first two modules of the modular switching layout "Industry Ave" (http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/13976). The goal was to get an industrial layout focused on switching. But my concern was - will this become boring after some time? After serving some industries everytime the same way with the same moves?
In my concept - and now realization - the modules can easily be rearranged. There will be the same industries, but the moves to serve them will change everytime.
Wolf Valley RR Engine Service area
Hoping for some better ideas than what I came up with here. I'm hoping to incorporate a Hostler job on my layout and would like to have the best operational service area possible in the space I have. This is my design that I currently have sketched out. The two outside rails are permanent and cannot be move as well as the yard ladder. Everything from the switch leading into the Service area is fair game including structures. If you would like to draw any ideas on XtrKCad let me know and I will send you the file if you like.
Thanks for any and all comments!!!
Short video on portable layout design
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and to modelling in general. I'm making a short video blog as my boys and I progress with our build. No doubt there will be many mistakes made but we're just having a bit of fun with it and learning as we go. Please check out my video if you have a spare 3mins.
cheers,

cement plant layout design
I currently purchased the glacier gravel company and the valley cement plant kits from walthers and was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how I could incorporate them both into one design and send me some track plan ideas to assist me in my final design. I had a look at the lime ridge hercules and portland railroad in 101 track plans but I am still confused about the positioning of the buildings
ATSF Paradigm Division (N-scale) - Staging Yards
Now that my wife and I have finished our summer project of rebuilding the shower, I can now refocus my effort back to the new layout.
The first picture shows a partial view down the peninsula of both staging yards (A & B). The scale drawing that was shown in the previous blog post documents (as close as possible) what was built since I obtained the Railmodeller software after the track was put down.
Multiple industries on same spur track
I guess we all have them, multiple industries on the same spur track, where we need to move cars being loaded or unloaded to spot another car. How common is this on the real railroads? Did the prototype have to secure the load somehow before the cars were moved? Or is this a mostly a modeling concept, and the real railroads do everything in their power to avoid this?,
Thanks
