mountains

Hi tbuild

Ii am stuck with building some hills and mountains for my layout I am building in ho scale

How do I know what height and width to build them without making them looking ridiculous i know the conversion is 1/87  for ho and can you use paper Mashee  and them paint them later one it dries

time periods

I recently purchased the following products from walthers through a hobby shop in south africa

Glacier gravel co. 933-3062
Valley cement plant. 933-3098

I wish to know what era these buildings where built in as I wish to purchase shops and houses in the same period to make the scenery and future buildings people and vehicles
More realistic to that time period

I have looked up these items on the walthers website and the do not state a specific time period can any body help me in this matter

Thank you

point to point or not

I wish to build a model train layout depicting the lifecycle of cement production I want to start the lifecycle by building a quarry with a stone crusher and washer facility ( the glacier gravel co) leading to a cement production plant (valley stone cement co) not a ready mix plant connecting the two using a conveyer system and then finally at a later stage would like to add a ready mix plant( medusa cement co ) connecting all three facilities closer to a city or town Should I use a point to point layout system or could I use another layout format

polystyrene good for creating scenery or not

I recently got my hands on a few pieces of polystyrene over the past couple of days and was wanting to use it to create the foundation of mountains with crumpled up newspaper placed in certain areas then drape plaster cloth over everything to create a solid frame to paint and mould into scenery how would I go about getting the heights right in order to make them realistic in height and size according to the scale of the train set

layout design for cement plant

According to walthers the glacier gravel company is an immitation of a stone crush and washer and the valley cement company is an actual cement production plant so I will build them seperatly and place them on close together and join the two using a conveyer system to create a large industrial area is this a good idea or if it was you designing the layout would you keep them far apart and use rail transport

cement plant layout design

I currently purchased the glacier gravel company and the valley cement plant kits from walthers and was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how I could incorporate them both into one design and send me some track plan ideas to assist me in my final design. I had a look at the lime ridge hercules and portland railroad in 101 track plans but I am still confused about the positioning of the buildings
