MRH Website general discussion

California Dreamin'
HI All. I figure what with the temperature supposed to dip to -10 here in Northern Indiana this weekend, what better time than to throw this out to the masses about an upcoming trip I will be taking the last week of March to visit my oldest son in Los Angeles. He's 21 and moved out there about 18 months ago, so this will be the first time to visit him as well as my first ever trip to the West Coast.
Vintage Model Railroading
Found the below image on Shorpy. PLEASE click the link and look at the big format, high resolution image. This one here's just a teaser. Got me thinking. I have a small collection of WW2 era Model Railroaders, a A.C. Gilbert HO train set in the "rifle box". A thread on vintage model railroading could be kind of fun. Let's see what else people have?

why so few subscribers?
With over 120,000 unique magazine views per month, why are there only about 30,000 subscribers?
Subscriptions are free, right? and provide some neat benefits including the NEW flag, video extras, tracking of posts etc.
Possible modification to posting page?
Hi Joe and MRH staff,
Is it possible to add the "jump to page" (1 2 3 .... pervious next) to the top of the discussion pages as well as its current location at the bottom? I like reading the inputs that have been added since my last visit, so I go to the end and back up from there. Having that option at the top of the page as well as the bottom would be very convenient. Having it at the bottom is useful when we finish one page and are ready to go to the next one so keeping it there as well would be a good thing.

Real dead rail power?
http://www.citylab.com/commute/2015/01/the-train-of-the-future-might-be-battery-powered/384522/
Question is what are they going to do with 80,000 dead batteries? And that's just on on train. Sounds like a chemical waste dump waiting to happen.

New Bright Holiday Express has no speed control
My New Bright Holiday Express has no speed controland I would appreciate troubleshooting assistance. Everything seems to work except there is no speed control. The train will go forward and reverse but very sluggish and speed controls have no impact. I have confirmed the pulses for fast/slow using a scope on the track, and the engine sounds from speaker do speed up/slow down. But the voltage to the motor is a constant 9.2vdc. I would like to confirm some readings with someone who has a working train. What is the low and high dc voltage on the 2 pins
