MRH Website general discussion
layout
Hello all, I am from France and would like to build my first layout with US trains (so big, coloured and beautifull).
Do you have any suggestion to make a nice layout as dogbone shape (approx lenght in Cm 585cm, I do confuse with inches and feet system!) My width will be 70 cm and approx 1square meter on each edge.
thanks for your help.
CA (superglue)
I know this is going to sound ridiculous, but how do you get CA to work. I can't get it to even stick to my fingers, let alone model parts! Thus I'm limited to styrene or wood. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance. Chris Nelson

Totally free, or royalty free loco & train sounds?
I've been looking for sources of loco & train sounds to use with my videos to add realism much like Charlie's excellent videos. Since I model the 1960's and 70's the loco sounds would need to be something that would be around during that timeframe.
I'd love to have "totally free" sound tracks that could be used without cost of license issues; however, I'm willing to purchase "royalty free" tracks if necessary.
Anybody know where I can find such tracks? Thanks in advance.

Hurrican Irene and model railroading
Hurricane Irene is due to hit NYC late tommorrow afternoon or evening. I don't know what kind of disruption this wil cause those of you on the East Coast from Florida on up but I hope the damage will be limited. Right now this hurricane is making a mess of the Carolinas (both South and North) and wish it doesn't destroy anything you've worked long and hard on.
I know in the past we have not had much damage aside from having no power for about a week due to the fact that the local transformer ended becoming a part of another tree.

Looking for RR crossing transfers or decal
I am looking for grade crossing warning for streets and roads, the big X with a smaller R on both sides. Preferably dry transfer but will settle for decal.
Went through the decal section of the Walthers online catalog but did not find it. I though I saw one recently but cannot remember.

"Dot" posts
O.K., I know that I'm curious, but I've seen a number of "dot" posts lately; that is, the post only has a "." and nothing else. I know that this will kick off the marker as showing a new comments has been added to the post. This is a great way to bring a previous post "up to the forefront" again. Am I missing something?

The Nov issue cover is still a work-in-progress, so this may not be the final cover - but something like this will be where we end up ...

Adding Background Sounds - FREE MP3 shop background sound file available
Thanks to Michael C for the idea - I've added a download area to my website where you can download a free MP3 sound file of background sounds for your backshop / roundhouse area. The file is 7-1/2 minutes long. Just load it on to your MP3 player, connect a speaker, and you have background sound for your layout. The link to my website and the file is here: http://richlawnrailroad.com/?page_id=367
If you haven't already done so, please check out the article in this month's (August) issue of MRH on background sound.
