Operation and maintenance

Savannah Area Model Railroading

Hi All,
Within the last couple months, I moved my family from the Denver, Colorado area to the Savannah, Georgia area. We are finally settled in and I am wanting to get a layout started, but additionally, I need to find some ops sessions.
Does anyone know if there is anyone hosting ops in this area? Also, is there a good hobby shop around?
Thanks,
Kevin

Deconsist and reconsist

This months issue has a switching problem where the solution involves separating the locos because of a lack of a runaround. I operate on a layout with similar problems. We use NCE. How easy is it to break up and reestablish the consist?Blayne

Operations - Auto Rack Switching

Does anyone have any experience switching an auto rack loading/unloading facility on their railroad(s)?

I'm curious if a crew/operator would spend the time switching out each individual car.

Currently, I've got 2 yard tracks that can hold between 6 and 9 auto racks depending on the type (89ft or Auto Max) and 3 unloading tracks (track work is in, no space to represent an auto plant for loading).

How to Operate

I am planning a very small layout, it will be a 4x8 split down the middle to simulate two "towns" with a staging yard attached. I have recently been bitten by the operations bug and want to be able to operate in a realistic manner. I am thinking a small branchline operation that runs maybe 2 trains a day. I don't have any model railroad friends nearby so will likely be running alone.

Operations Etiquette

I am about to go to my first ops session. It is being hosted in conjunction with a local NER/MFMR convention. I am a little nervous as I have never been part of an ops session before. Is there something I should be aware of as a first time operator? I am hoping this sparks an interest for me.

JMRI Switcher - Move Same Car Twice in One Build

Uncoupling - what method do you use?

There are various methods to uncouple depending on scale and type of coupler.

What scale and type of coupler are you using and how do you uncouple?

What other methods have you tried but stopped or avoid using and why?

Help on Track Operations

Hi All

I'm in need of some support and possibly some remedy to a problem I am having. Perhaps some of you have encountered the same issue.

THE ISSUE:

I have 2 Athearn SD40-2's 6 wheel HO Locomotives. I cant seem to get them to stay on the track when entering an HO Atlas Code 83 #563 Wye Turnout (7 51/64 inch). The wye is constructed with a 22 inch radius turn.

Also the loco's derail on the upon entering 2 HO Walther's Code 83 # 8827 #6 Curved Turnouts (12 25/32 inch)
